We should set up a program that incentivizes food companies to donate their organic produce waste to local farmers. Food waste is a huge cost to food service companies and organic produce is even riskier because they have to manage the short shelf life and spend more payroll stocking and ordering product. The average grocery store throws away 30% of their produce. If companies donated that waste to farmers they would help reduce high feed costs.
