In this age of technology the gluttony and abuse of the system by politicians is in clear view to American taxpayers. Whether it’s convenient timing on stock trades or landing a seat on the board of Lockheed Martin after leaving office. We are seeing individuals enter politics with modest net worths and exiting with tens of millions. This is not right and it goes against the fabric of our society. Individuals that create policy for this country should not be able to benefit monetarily off of that said policy. We’ve all heard about Nancy Pelosi’s conveniently timed trades of Visa recently, Nikki Haley’s board seat at Lockheed following her UN Ambassadorship and many more example to name. The tax payers pay a heavy price and the politicians line their pockets.
I propose a two part law.
Part One
Politicians currently holding public office and their family members are banned from trading stocks while they hold office. (If they want to park their money in a mutual fund that’s fine. )
Part Two
Politicians leaving office are barred or banned from taking a Job at a company that has been awarded a government contract or grant while they were in office for a period of 12 years.
I am looking forward to the feed back on this and potential additions. This is just basic framework and an idea. I feel like this is policy that we the people can get behind.
