For many of us, we have Sabbath day observance on Sundays. It’s a break from work, but it is not intended for recreation purposes. For us, when there is a three day weekend, ie one with a federal holiday, you have Saturday, the Sabbath, then the holiday. It’d be nice if federal holidays provided Friday off so it would be consecutive with Saturday for things recreation.
To sum up the problem with this proposal that I stated the last time I saw someone present it, the core issue with this proposal is that it relies on moving holidays that have been long established as happening on specific days for no reason other than that you personally want a three-day weekend.
Holidays like Christmas and Independence Day cannot just be arbitrarily moved, and as soon as you start creating exceptions for the holidays that need to be disconnected from the weekend I can’t see justification for just moving all the other holidays to the weekend because you’d rather focus on your three-day weekend over focusing on the reason the holiday actually exists.
Holidays do not exist to give you time off. Time off on holidays exists to allow you to celebrate the holiday.
