There should be a mandatory 4 day work week instead of 5! The 2 day weekend is simply not enough time to get things done, relax, and spend time with family.

maybe looking at public health. chronic lack of sleep is a big problem. stress related issues are a big problem.

We have mechanization and digitalization.
500 years ago, about 98% of all people worked in agriculture, because else it was not possible to feed every one.
today, about 2% of all people work in agriculture, and yet we manage to produce so much food that a lot of it becomes waste that never gets eaten AND obesity is a problem.
In big corporations and institutions, useless bureaucracy is the rule, not the exception. the world is full of “bullshit jobs”, as David Graeber called them.
When Elon Musk bought Twitter, he fired about 80% of the staff, and the platform works perfectly well with the remaining 20%.
These consideration lead to the assumptipn that an 8 hour work week for all able bodied adults would be more than enough to produce everything we need.
what exactly are these people supposed to do that you want to send working?
So you made it up and are presenting this proposal because you want the world to bend to your whims.
There are more reasonable ways to solve this than “let’s mandate few work hours”.
We could start with all the jobs that are currently filled by the criminal invaders that Trump is going to have deported.

Reducing working hours certainly is one of the most effective tools.
I’m lucky enough that I could do it for myself - my quality of life soared and I started doing thing that bring a lot more value to society than most things that I ever did in paid work, now that a rather small part time job finances by needs.

which would still not change the fact that we have a lot more people who could work, than useful (!) work to do.
and if the new government sees their plans through, soon government will be a lot smaller and a lot more people around with no job.
As a Senior Citizen who worked for 45 years, I agree and I’m a staunch Conservative. I raised 2 daughters and I feel like I was robbed of so many things I missed. School functions, having to pay bills during my Lunch break or run errands. All because my work demanded more of my time than anything. In the end, your employers don’t care about you. Europe has a 4 week vacation, they retire at 55, and they work less hours. And they also outlive us and are healthier. We should adopt some of these policies. Madison, I think it’s a great idea!

We do not need the government mandating how businesses can run or how much we work. If people want to work 4 days a week, they can find a 4 day a week job. We need less government controlling everything.

government needs to have a concept of “standard working time”, in order to calculate all kind of things, especially insurance premiums and insurance paiments.
which need not stop people working more for a salary (self employed) or working less (part time work)
it is reasonable that standard working time is chosen in a way that is not detrimental to the nation, not generating avoidable suffering, pain and costs for everyone.
current “full time” is based on the idea of a man working these hours, while his wife works unpaid, at home.
times have changed, today most people need to do paid work AND unpaid work at home on top of that.

I agree with 4 day work week being the normal as we should not live to work, but work to live. Jobs should ALL pay a fair amount for the returns we’re making them.

Oh poor you! I was 45 before I could afford a house, sweet-tits. I worked double shifts SIX DAYS A WEEK. You’re crying because you actually work the base hours!!! Go cry to someone who gives a crap about your precious feelings whilst people like me pay for you.
