Here in NH everything, state and local and school tax, is heaped on the property tax. I feel bad for seniors on fixed incomes with this as all these taxes go up. Schools the most.
It has traditionally been a local tax to support public schools and other community government and programs. There must be a way to do this that still allows our community programs to be financed. In the 1800âs and before, people in the community gave voluntary monthly subscriptions to pay their school teachers and provided housing. Parents provided school supplies for their children. In big cities, this would be very difficult. Some families canât afford school supplies for their children.
You canât just say, âget rid of this taxâ. It must be made up for somewhere. Any ideas?
Are you even reading the posts of others, or are you simply waiting for the policy proposer to give you all the answers? This should be a team effort by everyone here to come up with ideas that move the policy proposal forward â or give obvious reasons why it cannot/should not move forward.
Borrowing logic from you, and stated in reverse, âYou canât simply say that something cannot be done without showing everyone else the reasons WHY it canât be done.â (And simply saying, in a discussion forum, that âit has to be replacedâ is not good enough since even a child can make that leap of logic).
Now, if you would have read my post, only a few posts above yours, you would have seen a lot of info, including the following attempted solution proposed for group discussion:
Before you shoot down entertaining anything besides, supporting the county extortion scheme currently in place (property tax apologists do this religiously, like some statist cult) â a scheme which is merely an existing criminal racket justified by paying a few bucks on school expenses (while also generously padding the pockets of crooked politicians), please explain why NOTHING ELSE can enter your mind that would assist in replacing this unconstitutional criminality.
I havenât seen this âattemptâ in your posting - forgive me if I missed it. Certainly you didnât come into a forum called âEnd Property Taxes!â just to tell everyone that you donât like the idea. That would be akin to going into a Chinese Restaurant just to tell the customers that you donât like Chinese food. Who would do something that retarded, right?
So please share why ending property taxes cannot occur, since you are not sharing how it can occur. And simply saying that âsome parents cannot afford supplies, so someone else needs to buy themâ, does not add to the conversation â it only shows how socialism works and has nothing to do with why property taxes should end or why it cannot be replaced. Please share your positive constructive thoughts. Thanks.
Every state needs a DOGE. AND INSTEAD of a requirement that everything be done and funded by tax revenue⌠There are plenty of processes that could be done by volunteers, community service penalties/judgements, even some of these retirees could be of service to do any number of things to keep taxes down. And way more expenditures need to be put to public vote.
FT, your words like a breath of fresh air of Common Sense. Agreed. We could certainly use the same in-your-face DOGE technique at the state and county levels. And once we get off this âeverything needs to come from the property ownerâ mindset, the better off everyone will be â since we will start minding our pennies again, instead of slinging away our dollars.
How about a federal mandate to abolish property tax across all states?
Yes please! It makes absolutely no sense that you have to pay a tax on something you already âownâ or it gets taken away. What kind of logic is that? Thatâs not ownership thatâs rental.
Taxes should go bye bye. but being taxed multiple times on the same dollar is criminal. So yes, property taxes should never have happened .
I Pay double that. Seniors shouldnât have to pay school taxes either once the kids are grown and out of the house and there are some seniors who donât have children. We never really get to own anything we buy a house the bank owns it we pay it off but we have to pay taxes so we never truly own anything. Itâs a disgrace. The system is rigged against us so we can never break even. Just struggle to about maintain what you have as you fall further and further behind as the years go by. Social Security does not keep up with inflation and the 401(k) saved all the years from working is worth less and less. you are forced to sell it off to pay required minimum distribution on a failing investment. The only winners are the government and the banks. The government at every level is one big criminal enterprise. Hoping President Trump makes some real progress regarding seniors in our country. We are drowning.
As it currently stands, you never really own your house! I 100% agree all property taxes should end in all 50 states
Taxes for roads maybe-(which All need fixing) or have state taxes for them!
no more for schools and property
Indeed, and that is what can be done if we are a wealthy nation AND WE ARE. Just wait and see.
