End dual-citizen "representation"

Dual citizens should not be allowed to run in elections.
Simple as that.
Representatives should serve with accountability. i.e., You cannot run off to another country after you try to destroy this one.

I was born in Canada because my American parents were on a business vacation. This gave me dual citizenship. Raised my whole life in America. I don’t believe this should remove me from being able to run in elections when I have 0 memories of being in Canada.

Rescind the Canadian citizenship if you would like to run for Senator or something. If you feel strongly compelled enough to represent us, unwavering loyalty to the US would seem like a reasonable request.

I wouldn’t choose to renounce my Canadian citizenship because it’s part of my personal history, even if I have no ties there beyond birth. Renouncing it wouldn’t change my loyalty to the U.S. It would only erase a part of who I am for no real reason.

Government officials go through rigorous background checks that include reviews of financial records, personal affiliations, foreign contacts, and potential conflicts of interest. These checks are designed to assess loyalty, identify security risks, and ensure there’s no undue foreign influence. Dual citizens, like all candidates, meet these high standards. Holding another citizenship does not compromise loyalty, since the thorough vetting process confirms dedication to the U.S.

you could renounce your Canadian citizenship since you have no connection … THEN you could run for office. The US Constitution dictates that Presidents have to be US BORN citizens not naturalized for the same reason … you cannot have allegiance to two countries and be faithful to both.

Absolutely agree. If you have a dual citizen, it only means your heart is not in to protecting our country. No dual citizen.

This is really more important than most would think. Research how many of our current Congress members have dual citizenship. It’s a great rabbit hole.

No offense meant here, so please don’t take it this way. But if part being Canadian is part of who you are, then you don’t deserve to serve in an American government.

Exactly! Who knows which country they actually work for

Congressman and senators need to live and work from their home districts - not DC. Then dual citizenship would not matter

If you want to run, just renounce.

Many countries do not allow dual citizenship at all for this very reason. Never mind those working in government!

I agree they should not be allowed to run for office, but also not be allowed to serve in any cabinet or be appointed to any Federal position.

To add: dual citizens, if we have them at all, should either not be counted toward apportioning congressmen, or they should be counted as 1/n of a person where n is the number of countries where they have citizenship.
