We should end all taxes for our elders. Property and Sales taxes ending for every American that is 65 years old or older.
Sincerely,
a 65 year old
Yes please!!!
I worked hard all my life and paid taxes. I think it’s time for me to keep everything I earned in my retirement
I agree. For anyone who has survived to be 65+ they have already paid for many years!
Or add 250k deduction for income tax and 500k deduction for homestead
YES I AGREE. I Am 73 Living Only On Social Security. No Pension Or 401k. Real Estate Taxes Are A BIG Burden For Me. Thank You For Posting This Idea🇺🇸
How about 62 yr olds, which is the earliest they can draw SS.
I agree with many others. My wife and I live in a retirement area and we encounter people with financial difficulties all the time. Eliminating taxes on seniors 62 & up would give some people hope. Looking forward to retirement. Most people work all their life and have nothing to look forward to. These people have worked so that big businesses and the IRS can get their money. Their remaining years they should be rewarded with a life of no more taxes.
62+ would be good with me.
States and localities can handle those tax changes. The feds don’t need to get involved with local issues. Washington can work on fixing the IRS mess.
I agree the tax system needs to be reinvented; we are slaves to the tax system! It’s ironic that our country was formed after fighting a war over a tax on tea.
It seems your proposal would exempt the wealthiest people from paying any taxes (assuming most are over 65), and would shift all the tax burden to the middle class and younger generations who haven’t even had a fair chance to get started in life.
I like the idea of a national sales tax. Wealthy people buy more so they pay more. This would eliminate the IRS, payroll taxes, tax preparation fees and deadlines, and intimidating IRS audits.
Economy
Freedom from tax slavery!
I’m a proponent of removing all taxes anyway, but a lot of those who are quite well off are over 65, and if everyone else is stuck with it they should also be taxed on their income. Perhaps simply raise the income thresshold. If you make more than 100k as a 65+ senior, you still pay taxes, otherwise exempt… or something like it.
We need to start taking better care of our older citizens.
end all taxes period thats taking away from your pay your pay is property go with a terriff
I agree with eliminating income & especially property taxes from the retired / elderly population. But I don’t think sales tax should be included in the exemptions. That just opens the door for fraud - family members will have their elders making their large purchases for them. And many purchases are optional.
I feel that reaching the age of 65 and older, we have worked hard and paid our taxes. After retirement, we become limited with our finances. Having tax-free Social Security would be a Blessing.
This plan to end property tax needs more clarification as I would recommend (as some others stated) as of 62 years old the primary residence of said tax payer would qualify for no property taxes due through the end of their life.
Making this on only a primary residence allows county governments to collect on income producing rental properties as well as owner of multiple homes while assisting those of a retirement age to navigate fixed income living a little easier. Without this law many of us will be forced to sell our homes in order to retire when we reach the age to draw on social security.
We should end all income tax . Our government has a spending problem.
As a 63 year old military retiree, I could live with this.
Love this right along with property tax issues. We need to give our elderly loving and kind care and a break.
This right along with the abuses of the property tax system, where people can lose their homes for unpaid taxes (in Jamaica you just aren’t able to transfer ownership if you have unpaid taxes, you never lose your property). I don’ t like the idea of property taxes period, govt does not own its people or property, however, local government such as police, fire, etc. need a funding source.
I wonder what others think would be a good way to do that?
