The Down syndrome spectrum is huge . It goes from minimal disability to 24hr hospitalization don’t preach about what you know nothing about. There is not and will not be a complete abortion ban.

There’s nothing “preachy” in my post. I simply stated a fact that my proposal does not contain exceptions for Down Syndrome. If it did, you would not see any pro-lifer support for a federal bill like that. I had to explain all of that because too many people made false assertions that my proposal funded abortion or allowed exceptions simply because the child was “disabled.”

It also does not prevent states from allowing elective abortion.

In addition, I’m not the one proscribing a “complete abortion ban.”

Medically it is. And I would know cause it’s on my paperwork when it happened to me 3 times…

WE DONT LIVE IN THE STONE AGE !!! abortion NEEDS to be an option for families. It’s scary enough in the world we live in we don’t need to worry about if our wife’s are going to have to also die due to medical complications that can be avoided. There’s also cruel people out there that do cruel things and a woman should NOT have to suffer at the hands of a man

I disagree as a nurse that works in obstetrics. Unfortunately babies die before they are born, due to genetic anomalies, or sometimes unknown reasons. This would then require an unwanted, but necessary abortion. Otherwise the baby just sits in the uterus. When there is any dead tissue, organs, or babies in a Woman’s body, the body starts to reject it. This is when a woman can go septic and die as well if she is unable to get a medical abortion.

Another reason is ectopic pregnancies, i promise that if there was a way to fix ectopic pregnancies then we would already be doing them. Ectopic pregnancies are devastating because the woman continuously bleeds rapidly and faces life threatening shock, and on top of that she loses her baby. The only cure today for the bleeding is to remove the baby. A baby can’t survive in the womb if the mother is dead.

Also, unfortunately rape is a lot more common than people think. The psychological turmoil can be detrimental by itself, leading to suicide, or suicide attempts.

Are we really pro life if we are only pro life of the baby?

I could write an essay on all the reasons abortions are medically necessary. I could also discuss the reasons why elective abortions should remain legal. If you are truly this passionate about this subject you should be open to learning about the issue from many credible sources, such as OBGYNs, or mothers that have gone through the trauma of their much wanted pregnancy gone wrong.

I would like to preface that I am saying this as a Christian woman. I do not agree to ban abortion whatsoever. I believe it is a difficult subject because both sides of this argument do counteract each other and themselves in many ways. However, it is inertially wrong to place something so strong into government based on a religious stance. It goes against the freedoms of nonreligious US citizens. I believe it is a woman’s right to chose, but there should be a cap unless medically necessary. I believe what someone believes is wrong to do to their body should not affect what someone else decides to do (i.e. what they consume through food, a vaccine, a surgery). I don’t think it’s right to ban abortion, it is a choice for those to make, and it ultimately boils down to control. I was in the pro life movement for years, I still have respect for those in it. However, there more often than not are people who simply just want to control women’s decisions in that movement. It should not be decided what another woman can do with her body simply because YOU do not believe it is morally right. Morality is a wide spectrum, but it should not infringe on another woman’s bodily autonomy

Thats absolutely ridiculous. I dont understand why this has ever even been a conversation. What I do with MY body should be of no concern to anybody else. It is MY body. Why dont men just get vasectomies until theyre ready for children? Sounds crazy right? You dont want someone telling you what to do with your body, right? Absolutely insane.

EXACTLY. This shouldnt even be a conversation and absolutely shouldnt be anywhere near the government. Its my body. Mine. What I do with it has no concern to anybody but MYSELF. Its absolutely insane to me that people think this is okay.

I believe that all fetus should be cremated at the end of every abortion along with a thorough documentation of the DNA of the fetus, as well as the DNA of both parents and Grandparents when available.
I believe that presentation and ownership of this persons ashes, whom, had not the completion of their birth and denied their right to life, be interned and undisturbed in ways of traditional burial. Thus fulfilling the Constitution in it’s true and truthful meaning.
Upon this disclosure, all future action and recourse can encumber the state, citizens or persons related to the fetus, to collect damages to “Unlawful Birth”.

If you don’t want an abortion, don’t have one. Otherwise, it is none of your business.

The process of being human is contiguous—there is never a point at which we are something other than human, nor is there ever a point at which we are not alive before death. Abortion is ending a human life, murder. One can argue humans lack a soul at this point, making it no worse than killing an animal. However, there are people appear soulless well into life, yet we don’t consider ourselves free to “abort” them.

One possible litmus test could be to replace the word “abort” with “eat.” If eating a fetus comes off as cannibaly, then aborting one might reasonably be considered murdery.

In my opinion, the woman’s life and the child’s life are separate, and the woman has the same right to end the child’s life that anyone else has to end hers. The fetus lacks independence, not individuality or natural rights.

The Constitution does seem to provide some protections, but it’s not entirely clear to me.

5th Amendment: “No person shall… be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law.”

Are all humans considered “persons” under this amendment? It hasn’t always been interpreted that way,.

14th Amendment: “All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.”

This clarifies that persons who are “born” are considered citizens, suggesting that personhood may exist outside of birth. So pre-born are not citizens, but they may have the right to life as persons. It’s ambiguous.

Declaration of Independence: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.”

The Founders believed in the inherent rights of man(kind), but their ambiguity suggests a compromise with varying moral frameworks.

9th Amendment: “The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.”

Supporting the Declaration’s idea of unalienable rights, the 9th Amendment could be read to include a fundamental right to life, but who knows.

The Constitution almost seems designed to encourage debate.

Abortion is treated similarly to withdrawing life support from the “brain dead”. Both are non-participants in society; Dependents who cannot speak, protest, or react perceptibly, and their deaths attract little scrutiny. This points to a moral blind spot rather than a difference in perspective.

Abortion undeniably terminates the progression of a human life. The Constitution appears to frown on this but isn’t entirely clear. I don’t personally support it. Still, I can’t support any type of federal abortion ban. Death is a part of life, and our cultural aversion to it does more harm than good. In this case, the kind of person who would seek an abortion likely benefits society by doing so.

This is a good states’ rights issue, with Trump correctly supporting special circumstances.
