Election Day into Federal Holiday

A simple, stand-alone bill which makes Election Day into a Federal Holiday. This would be a great step toward creating a national culture in which all Americans (including the private sector) have the day off on Election Day in order to vote. This bill would allow:

  1. Involvement of more day-working Americans in the election system (e.g. poll watchers, election officials, volunteers).

  2. Decrease of voter congestion at polling places nationwide after 3-5pm (as most Americans are getting off work during this time).

  3. Increase of voter turnout for “day of” voting since Americans will have all day to vote instead of a couple hours after work or during work breaks.

Publius.
