Need a law to require news media to give the ‘correction’ of any previous news story regarding an election to have the same weight as the original transmission and if it is digital it must be posted on the front or top page throughout the entire election cycle; if the statement is made in print, it must appear on the front page rather than being buried on the last or intervening pages; if the item was on broadcast news the correction shall appear in same time format and be repeated each week during the election cycle with the same gravitas as the original story, or item.
This would result in the News media vetting its stories before passing disinformation on.
In addition, if an article/show states that a person made a statement it shall include the entire statement - not an edited portion which changes the meaning.
Violators should be fined for each time a misquote is asserted without the correction.
