The Department of Transportation (DOT) should be partnering with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to develop modernized highway infrastructure that solves environmental problems simultaneously. Solutions such as (1) Separating contaminants from highway runoff before releasing back into the environment, Protective Barriers to prevent animal roadkill, and Overpass/Underpass solutions (Wildlife Crossings) for animals to allow wildlife to move across highways should be designed into a modernized highway infrastructure.
