To enhance transparency and accountability in government, we propose a Congressional spending reform requiring all spending bills and continuing resolutions to undergo a mandatory seven-day public review period. This policy ensures that citizens have adequate time to examine how their tax dollars are allocated and assess the potential impact of proposed expenditures. By making legislative text publicly available for a full week before a vote, constituents gain the opportunity to understand the details of federal spending and engage in informed dialogue with their elected representatives. This reform would prevent rushed decisions on critical financial legislation, reducing the likelihood of hidden provisions or wasteful spending passing unnoticed.
In addition to fostering transparency, a seven-day public review period would strengthen the relationship between lawmakers and the people they represent. This initiative empowers citizens to voice their support or opposition to specific spending measures, providing valuable feedback to legislators. Representatives, in turn, would have clearer insight into the priorities and concerns of their constituents, enabling them to make decisions that better reflect the will of the people. By encouraging civic participation and accountability, this reform promotes a government that is more responsive, democratic, and aligned with the public interest.
