I like the idea of retrieving the farmland but I would not limit the focus just on Chinese non-citizen this should include all non-citizen or corporations HQ outside the US - also I do not like the solar energy idea.
If no takers I would subdivide the land and give a 1 - 5 acre plot to any veteran who has serviced honorably - in addition I would offer it to first time home buyers in combination to a low cost housing option (like a tiny house) - first time homes should not be mcmansions
Again, states rights. States should have to put the sale or lease of land to foreign entities on the ballot of the county in which said land is in question. Let the people decide. No state government should supersede local government but local governments are also corrupt so the people should get to decide.
Add all foreign entities who own land have to turn it back over to the state. Add no more foreign entities can buy or lease land unless voted a Yes by the locals in ballot form. More countries than China have acquired land in America.
Agreed except for the solar energy âfarmâ part. Valuable farm land can be put to much better use than solar or wind âfarmingâ. Put solar panels over parking lots, but only after a viable technology for power storage is developed.
Buying land in singapore is restricted to certain areas and has a 60% tax of the purchase price for foreigners . To help balance out the property market for singapore residents. We should consider something like this .
A big focus should also be on restricting Funds like Blackrock to gobble up single family homes.
Exactly correct. I donât want a single person owning any land if they are not a US Citizen. In addition, people like bill gates, and corporations like BlackRock and Vangaurd shouldnât be allowed to just buy up all our land either. Our land should be for farmers and their companies, and other smaller entities. Not multinational trillion dollar organizations or foreign governments.
Solar farms are really not a great idea. Too much toxic waste that canât be recycled and prone to issues from snow, hail, and sun! Their true contribution after factoring in actual cost to make without subsidies is negative last I heard.
I would give preference to buyers who will put the farmland back in production as opposed to Bill Gates who buys it and lets it sit.
Would also love to see incentives for younger generations to become farmers by making it easier for them to purchase farmland. Our current state has made farmers a dying breed.
This should extend to foreign ownership of any property in the US. Farm land is an important starting point, but much of the land classified as farm land isnât being farmed. At minimum, itâs taking potentially good, workable land from American farmers, and at worst is serving another nefarious purpose.
If no interested parties emerge the land should be returned to the citizens of the state to vote on how it will be utilized or managed. This measure is to prevent the US government from accumulating the land.
