Child support payments should be a pre-taxed deduction from the payers employment earnings. The same way 401K is. And /or Child Support payments should be included in the income tax fillings as a deduction/exemption, the payer should have the child support payments considered as an expense and not included as gross income when applying for any type of housing, food, medical, assistance. The money is going to a separate household therefore it should be removed and not considered as part of the households income. The same way that a person applying for assistance who receives child support it is counted as income for the household. There would be no need for parents to have conflict over claiming the child on taxes because the money would be a separate exemption and the pay or would find relief. And will also promote parents financial ability to support their child, offer open communication and the opportunity to co-parent because everyone receives the benefit of financially supporting the child.
Child support is different formula in many states but yes should definitely be taken pre tax . Or should eve based on net income as now it is based on gross income then taken from your net income .
The amounts courts base how much it costs to raise a child is ridiculous. And if a father should re marry and have another child that child is deemed less worthy.
Complete overhaul needed
