Call a Convention of the States to Limit the Scope, Power and Jurisdiction of the Federal Government

We have to do something and I would rather implement the path provided in the Constitution to change the Constitution. We know the federal government will never pass Constitutional amendments like these to limit their own power. Most people don’t know that President Thomas Jefferson believed the Constitution would require modification every 19 years. Why did he say this? Because he and most of the founding fathers did not trust a central government and they had good reason after their fight for independence against the tyrant King of England who was probably also mentally ill. I need you to realize that this effort is not to corrupt the federal government, but to improve it for our future. Patriots unite!

My challenge to your statements elicited your response above which does far more to convince, persuade and garner support than did your original post; therefore I conclude that by challenging you, we got much better from you.

Challenge and criticism do more to shed light on a topic than does reticence, IMO.

Thank you for rising to the challenge and making clear your position. I think it might help persuade others in these matters.

Thick skin is a prerequisite and ruffled feathers a necessary result of political discussions. Without them, there can be no progress towards better government, which is always less government.

Calling a Convention of States as provided for in Article V of our U.S. Constitution may be our best and last hope to peacefully and lawfully preserve our Nation.

Congress, both parties, and the deep state are out of control and will not correct themselves. This is just as our Founding Fathers foresaw and why they unanimously including the Convention of States concept for proposing amendments to the Constitution. Article V provides a means for We the People to rein our government when it become corrupt and tyrannous. And corrupt it is.

The amendment categories proposed by Convention of States Action provide boundaries on the convention to three areas that would limit the federal government and return power to the people and the states: imposing term limits on federal officials, imposing fiscal constraints on the federal government, and limiting its size and scope.

Since I couldn’t find it written anywhere here, in the spirit of transparency I think it should be added that the poster is the president of the action he’s brought forward. Again, just for transparency: Mark Meckler - Wikipedia
Great discussion!

A solution to return the balance of power to the people, the way it was originally designed to be!

:candle:Let’s light this candle for Liberty:exclamation::us:

“Power,” as they say, “tends to corrupt.” Montesquieu wrote that: " To prevent this abuse, it is necessary from the very nature of things that power should be a check to power.” The Framers of the U.S. Constitution accepted this recommendation and included limitations on the National Government to prevent the abuse of power. Those limitations have been eroded over the 250 years since then and we need to “get back to the basics.” Congress has shown it won’t do that, so an Article V Convention of the States is the only possible way to reinstitute limitations on the National Government.

Term limits for all elected and appointed officials of the Federal Government are long overdue … decades overdue, in fact. I support term limits of no more than 12 years for any Federal office that doesn’t already have term limits, which would equate to 2 terms in the Senate; 6 terms in the House; or 12 years on the Supreme Court, with the Chief Justice considered as a separate office.

Use our second amendment to remove the tyrannical government that is in power right now! Create an entire new government and arrest, indict and convict, every single one of those Democratic politicians, which allowed illegal immigration, and convict them of treason!
Indict and convict any of the people who are in charge of FEMA!
I use our fourth amendment where the constitution writings, its self in the “ We The people address. “ to protect against the tyrannical government, attempting to take our freedom of speech, our freedom of religion, assembly in our right to bear arms, and make sure that never again can any type of vaccine or medication be forced upon us!
There needs to be amendments for bidding the buying up of farmland, and certainly limitations along with no one should be able to buy farmland, and they certainly shouldn’t be able to affect our weather which we see is happening with Bill Gates

Mark, thank you for posting the text of the petition. I pray that it will succeed, but I fear that it will not.

Instead of a single petition and a single convention, I think a better strategy is to aim for a series of conventions of states to discuss and propose a series of changes to the US constitution. Each convention should be tightly focused thus constraining the scope of the convention and micro focusing on the issues. The more constraints placed on the process the more support is likely to accrue.

That horse, however, is already out of the barn; but I will opine giving my rationale

There is so much distrust of politicians and the government that many in this country oppose the CoS process from fear of the unknown and fear that those same politicians will bring bad influences to bear.

The nation has never exercised the Article V provisions for updating the constitution, probably because politicians for the last 250 years have fought against it. The last thing they wanted – or want even today – is for the people to constrain their power and curtail their governmental powers. It’s a shame, too, because even Jefferson thought that it would be necessary to do so and that it would happen every 20 years or so. By having a series of conventions of states to propose constitutional changes, the nation would become accustomed to the process and trust it more.

By making a petition that calls for a convention to discuss 3 different topics which are so broadly stated as to be open to too many interpretations, the petition itself makes an easier target to argue against.

I think it a mistake to bundle too many things into a single petition. You don’t hunt deer in Texas with a shotgun, you use a rifle because . . .

· you want enough power to kill, and

· you want better targeting ability.

There are many people who would support and vote for one or two of the areas to be considered but not all three; thus weakening the attempt. Concentration of effort would have better chances of success. The list of needed reforms an elephant must be eaten one forkful at a time.

Here are my top 4 areas that should be addressed in individual conventions:

  1. Fiscal reform, to wit, preventing congress from deficit spending and putting the US back on a precious metals backed currency.

This issue is very broad, more so than most people know. It encompasses agreement on what constitutes deficit spending (spending more than receipts by incurring debt) which calls into discussion limits on revenues, else congress will simply increase taxes to fund its pork barrel items and set-asides.

It also requires consideration of how to implement such a hard and drastic change.

There will be times of emergency when deficit spending and borrowing will be necessary, such as World War II. Deciding how to define national emergency and how it would be declared and affirmed and implemented, to include specifying when the emergency ceases to exist, are just a few of the considerations that must be made.

There are, perhaps, many other facets of this one issue that require broad perspective and input and meaning reform can be proposed. I cannot see that degree of attention being given to the matter - attention that it demands - when coupled with term limits and government scope changes.

  1. Term limits, to wit, changing how long any single individual (or family for that matter) can serve and or influence government policy.

The scope of this reform is of utmost importance. It should not be limited just to congress or the judiciary but should extend throughout government and should include all offices, whether elective, appointive, consultative, and hired. For example, I think amending terms of service for the federal government should include all offices of whatever type in a lifetime with perhaps 15 total years being the cap. I think no one should serve in any office for more than 2 consecutive terms and that further service should be predicated on having been out of government entirely for a period equaling the period of service. In other words, a member of the house could serve 2 terms then be required to sit out the length of those terms before running for the house again. (NOTE: I think the 2-year terms for house are counterproductive. Too much time and attention is diverted to reelection efforts. IMO house terms should be increased to 3 years. I think the 6 year terms for the senate are about right. I think that a POTUS should be limited to a single term of 6 years and it should be easier to remove a POTUS from office by will of the people directly, bypassing congress if necessary.) Federal judges should serve no more than 15 years in total and it should be possible to impeach and remove them by citizen initiated recall.]

Again, this subject is too broad and too deep to be considered in a convention with other agenda items to address. It would not get the attention that it needs and deserves. There is the possibility that vote trading among issues would occur.

  1. Limited Participation in Government, to wit, denying all entities not born of woman from participating in any political or governmental activity to include, especially, contributing to political campaigns or to any agency of government financially or in any other form.

The corporation and corporate lobbying in its current form was unknown to the founders. Had it been, I am confident that there would have been provisions banning, or at least limiting, corporate participation in the political process and in government. It is antithetical to the one man; one vote premise on which democratic processes depend.

The same can be said of political parties which have become financial engines as much as or more than they are consortiums of political beliefs. Government should be able to call upon corporations and political parties for advice through their lobbyists, but they should not have an active role in government.

Again, this is a broad and deep subject that merits the widest debate and wisest consideration. It should stand alone in a convention of states. It might even be easier to get states to adopt a petition to consider these changes if they stand alone.

  1. Accountability, to wit, holding all office holders to account for the manner in which they fail to perform duties of office to include removal from office, fines, and incarceration.

Government offices operate under the protection of a form a sovereign immunity. This grants too many degrees of freedom for elected officials, appointed officials, consultants, lobbyists, and government employees and almost no accountability for their actions.

I would like to see constitutional changes that would define 3 levels of misconduct of office, and penalties for them, defined as . . .

· nonfeasance of office, meaning failing to carry out legally required duties of the office (such as border security),

· misfeasance of office, meaning intentionally conducting duties of an office in a careless, wanton manner or disregarding legal requirements, and,

· malfeasance of office, meaning using an office for personal gain or for the financial gain or increased political power not available to every citizen.

All of these should be cause for removal from office and invoking charges for them should be available to citizens, not just to other parts of government.

All of them result in fines and loss of any benefits that would otherwise accrue from service.

Misfeasance of office should also be punished by fines commensurate with the harm caused.

Malfeasance of office should be punished by fines and imprisonment, and, perhaps, should even by punished by seizing property owned jointly or in common. Partners and spouses should be at risk of forfeiture for malfeasance, in my opinion. If they have skin in the game, they are more likely to exert pressure on their partners to perform legally.

I have a question? If the current Federal Government isnt following the original constitution as it was written. The Balance of powers. Why would they follow an amendment to it by a Convention of States? My thought is we need to take back our federal govenment by force…a hostile take over. The Federal Government should have never been allowed to have any powers not specifically granted by the Constutution. The problem is very few of our elected officials even know anything about what is written in the constitution. The have continually passed law after law that directly violate the constitution. When an animal goes Rabbid….you dont talk it back into not being rabbid….you have to kill it. Same is true with givernment that doesnt follow the structure that is was given to exist in the first place. I believe the only way out of this is another Declaration of Independance….not from Great Britian….but from the United States of America ( by name only). They want us divided!!

RFk JR…. 1) Prevent digital ID. That is very important!
2) Prevent the sale of our farmland, and definitely keep any sales limited from people such as Bill Gates buying up all the farmland in trying to force fake foods upon us!
3) Prevent anybody from manipulating the weather!
4) Put in some kind of added protection to protect our freedom of speech, our right to bear arms, freedom of assembly and freedom of religion, and under those, of course, would be making sure the government could never force any medication or product inside our body whether it be vaccines or chips For IDs
5) Use the clauses in the right to bear arms in our second amendment to arrest, indict and convict every one of those people in Congress, who have a loud illegal immigration as it is treason!
6) Arrest, indict and convict, Bill Gates, and Fauci, and everyone of those people for murder and attempted murder because when they let the illegals in our country, they exposed and attempted to kill us with Covid three and four years ago. If they can indict and try to convict, Charlie sheen of attempted murder for having sexual encounters when he knew he had aids or HIV this is absolutely no different when the government brought those illegals in and exposed our country, American citizens to Covid, and whatever other diseases they have brought in.
7) Make more laws in regard to animal abuse, and anybody contributing to animal abuse. So if even one Asian or immigrant, or anybody is killing or eating or injuring, any animal, they not only they are convicted, but the people who let them in the country are now part of animal abuse, and ultimately a murder, because every animal has a soul! Every living being has a soul! the animals need to have equal protection in the constitution as they are considered part of the family. Pets are literally another family member and they need to have the rights and protections that any human family member has!
8) There are so many convictions that could come down because of what they have done, and nobody is doing it!
9) Go back to a cash society and get completely rid of digital anything! America was just fine back in the 17 and 1800s and even after that and we were a cash society!
10) Cut off any persons social app to any other country that even a slight bit is abiding illegals, to enter our country giving them any type of money or support, which includes any religious organization contributing to that as well, and then make sure those people and organizations doing that are convicted !
11) Establish more “ ICE” like military groups that will serve as an added protection to our borders
12) Put a clause or back up the second amendment, either one to make sure that the government cannot control or illegalize any type of militia that are American citizens without a criminal history.
13) stop any American money from leaving the United States! France can stop this. Why can America not stop this? Our money needs to go to Americans and to do United States only!
14) make extremely severe consequences for anybody given money or aid to illegals! Extreme consequences for treason as these elites, and these horrible people in Congress are destroying our country! Extreme consequences I’m talking even up to death, for this type of behavior

To state this in a simpler way, at a Convention of States, ammendments can be proposed to put limits on federal spending; that is the primary means to balance the budget.

In Article V of the Constitution, the Founding Fathers described a peaceful method for ‘We the People’ to take back power from a tyranny-bound federal government. We can put it in play or we can prepare for the dissolution of our country as we know it.

The States need to hold the power of their own state over the federal government.

It’s obvious Congress will not correct these issues. It’s up to the state legislatures under Article V to correct the overreach of the federal government.

You understand that there’s like half the country who loves big government and they too would get the opportunity to do constitutional rewrites you’re talking a dangerous game here a very very dangerous idea here I can’t support allowing politicians the ability to rewrite our constitution that’s just crazy to me these are the people who screwed it up and you’re going to let them rewrite it or you going to let those who they select and approve rewrite it yeah I get it we have to vote on it but no wait I just I can’t. Just take 5 minutes to go through tick tock and look at what we are dealing with we are dealing with people who look up to influencers and not that some influences aren’t good but they’re entertainment and these people are taking life advice from them these people want big government. If anything I would say just continue to pray that a certain man gets in office and continues to choose conservative justices or that maybe the a case goes to the Supreme Court or the Supreme Court looks at it and says no Congress you’ve overstepped your powers and seriously abused the commerce clause.

Only the unstudied, the ignorant, the mindless, and THE ENEMY would argue in favor of The U.S. Constitution while at the same time arguing AGAINST Article V of The U.S. Constitution. Article V is not only a vital part of the ORIGINAL U.S. Constitution, but at this point in history, it is the most important part of it. Article V was not only the final Article to be included in our ORIGINAL U.S. Constitution, it is the ONLY Article of our Constitution that was included UNANIMOUSLY: WITHOUT ARGUMENT—NOT A SINGLE DISSENTING VOTE AGAINST IT! No other Article of our Constitution was unanimously accepted. Every other Article of the U.S. Constitution had dissenting votes against it. Not so with ARTICLE V.
USE IT (Article V), OR LOSE IT (our Republic)!
