Bringing plant-based nutrition experts into policy discussions related to ameliorating and reversing the chronic disease epidemic

BRINGING PLANT-BASED NUTRITION EXPERTS INTO POLICY DISCUSSIONS RELATED TO AMELIORATING AND REVERSING THE CHRONIC DISEASE EPIDEMIC- A doctors opinion.

John Kaplan, MD is a Physician and Plant-Based Whole Foods Nutrition Consultant [drJohnhnsnutritionhealtm.com].

70% of once uncommon and now epidemic chronic diseases are food- borne illnesses. In the last 75 years the American diet has undergone a radical transformation, from primarily plant- predominant whole foods to largely synthetic food-like- substances created in the laboratories of large industrial food producers.
Recent research has made it evident that Chronic illnesses may be prevented, ameliorated, and often reversed by employing an exclusively lower fat whole foods nutritional lifestyle change. Diabetes, Hypertension, Heart Disease, Irritable Bowl Disease, Alzheimer’s Dementia, Autoimmune Diseases [like Lupus], and many Cancers may be addressed by lifestyle changes rather than with “pills and procedures”.
Luminaries in the Academic Plant-Based universe of academic scholars include (I have only listed a few):
Heart Disease:
*Coldwell Esselstyn, MD ( Author: Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease * Joel Kahn, MD- Past President of ACLM ( Author: The Plant Based Solution) *Kim Williams, MD- Former president of The American College of Cardiology
Diabetes:
*Cyrus Khambatta, PhD (Author: Mastering Diabetes) *Neal Barnard, MD [of Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine- PCRM]- Author: of Dr Barnard’s Program for Reversing Diabetes
Autoimmune Diseases: *Brook Goldner, MD (Author of Goodbye Lupus and Goodbye Autoimmune Disease) * Saray Stancic, MD (Author: What’s Missing From Medicine)
Bowel Inflammation and Colon Cancer: *Alan Desmond, MD (Author: The Plant-Based Revolution)

General Medical Conditions: *Neal Barnard (Author: Your Body in Balance and The Power Food Diet) *Joel Fuhrman, MD (Author: Eat To Live)
*Michael Greger, MD (Author: How Not To Die; and Website: nutritionfacts.org *Dean Ornish, MD (Author: UnDo It!)
Alzheimer’s Dementia: *Dean and Ayesha, MDs (Authors: The Alzheimer’s Solution

There is an immediate need to address the Nutritional etiology driving the current suffering caused by the current chronic disease epidemic. There are many worthy clinical and published academic researchers who are excellent candidates to play such a role in the forthcoming Trump/Vance/Kennedy administration. A short list should include:
Neal Barnard MD of the Physician’s Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM)
Joel Fuhrman, MD, FACFM
Michael Greger, MD, FACLM
Joel Kahn, MD, FACC
Kim Williams, MD, FACC

Thank you,

Hello! Thank you for your research and dedication to reversing the chronic disease epidemic. If ever there was a poster child to prove the validity of your research it is me.

I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1997. I had been experiencing signs of the disease, however, since the early 1980’s. Every time that I went to the doctor for an explanation for the problems that I was having I was told that I was “just stressed” and sent home with a prescription for valium.

Fast forward to 1997 when I was finally given a diagnosis. The doctor wanted to immediately start an MS therapy. I respectfully declined and said that I wanted to do some research and try to treat it with vitamins and herbs. I continued this with success until I got married. My husband was terrified and wanted me to start an MS therapy. I resisted for awhile but then finally relented. Little did I know that the pharmaceutical along with the increasing toxicity of our food would further damage my body.

After 5 or 6 years I was beginning to decline quickly. At this time I was still on the MS therapy and had, also, added 7 more drugs because of all of the side effects. It was then that a friend shared the story of Dr. Terry Wahls and her protocol for reversing her own struggle with MS. I immediately stopped taking every drug that I was on and followed her protocol to the letter to feed and heal my mitochondria.

After being on this strict regimen for 6 weeks my neurologist wanted an MRI. The results were phenomenal. My lesions had shrunk 2 mm in just 6 weeks. My neurologist was so astounded when I told her that I had stopped taking the medicine and was using food and nutrition as my medicine. She ended the appointment by telling me to “keep doing what I was doing”.

That was almost 10 years ago and I am now 68 and still going strong. I am continuing to be grain free, dairy free, sugar free, and processed food free eating only highly nutritious foods and taking vitamins and supplements.

My quality of life is 100% and I am so thankful that people are now starting to see that the foods and drugs approved by the FDA are harmful and are causing our society to have increasingly more chronic diseases than ever before.

Hello Sarie.
You have a compelling story.
Please read Saray Stancic’s book “What’s Missing From Medicine” Dr Stancic is an MD who reversed all her symptoms of severe MS in herself by adopting a Whole Foods Plant-Based Diet and Lifestyle change. She is one of my medical heroes. i teach people how to adopt an exclusively WFPB diet which I did for myselt a decade ago. I do not require any medication at age 75 .
