Big pharma ads

We need it to be illegal for any medication that requires a doctors prescription to be on TV.

Agreed. Direct to consumer advertising by Big Pharma must stop. It adds to the cost of medication. Most importantly Big Pharma can use advertising dollars to influence content.

No more ads AT ALL promoting ANY drug.

I recommend we consolidate this suggestion with Forbid TV drug commercials /and require financial disclosures from doctors - #5 by Apex99.

It’s the same idea and outcome.

No doctor should be getting ANY incentives from ANY drug company…we won’t no bias due to commission for sales of any drug.

Matter of fact, we need to go back to herbal healing for the simple remedies.
Doctors would be for the surgeries or what not.

Big Pharma owns or partially owns SO many things in this world has has become a VERY dangerous thing for humans. They should just keep all of their drug information on their websites for the public and physicians to do their own research on. Sensationalizing medications in commercials and “flattering” doctors (I know they do this because I worked for doctors when I was younger) and giving them awards, kickbacks, gifts, etc., is WRONG. We don’t poison our people for profit!

Why? I have seen pharmaceutical ads on TV my whole life. They don’t control me like Cthulhu and make me forcibly drive to my doctor and force my doctor prescribe it to me. I just watch it, get informed, and move on with my day. Banning this will ensure the end of TV medium which is already an almost obsolete medium.

No more false advertising drugs such as vitamins, weight gain or loss…memory rejuvenation, etc…

Yes! It’s insane how many medications are FDA approved but not herbal supplements!

Just because you’re used to it doesn’t mean it’s normal. There’s zero reason for commercials about drugs no one can take without a doctor prescribing it to them.

Big Pharma is not allowed to run their adds in other countries.
We should stop them here as well.
99% of what they create is more junk to keep you sick and dependent on more of their drugs.
Take all of their control out of the government.

Because the FDA is big pharma controlled.
Natural remedies kept people healthy for thousands of years.
Rockefeller came about with his petroleum and changed all that.
By buying off everyone he was able to claim his drugs were the real thing and those things that had worked since the beginning of mankind were a joke.
Big Pharma needs to go all together if you ask me.
I became one of the first known to stop ankylosing spondylitis by going natural.

But they do convince you that modern medicine and your doctor are the only way to get well when even a doctor will tell you that his job is NOT to cure you, it is to treat you.
Big Pharma gets rich by keeping you sick and they’ve bought out all of our politicians making us one of the only countries its legal to run their adds in.
99% of the crap they come up with is stuff they already have, they just change the name or the recipe and sell it as something else.

I completely agree with your comment @DigitalSass. It’s frustrating to see pharmaceutical ads that promise relief for a single symptom, only to be followed by a list of potential risks and severe side effects. It feels counterproductive and highlights a few significant issues:
1. Misinformation and Consumer Pressure: Direct-to-consumer (DTC) ads can create the impression that these medications are universally beneficial, leading patients to request specific drugs based on marketing rather than medical advice.
2. Over-Medicalization and Confusing Messaging: These ads often push the idea that everyday issues need pharmaceutical solutions, while the rapid-fire list of side effects can overwhelm and confuse viewers rather than provide meaningful information.
3. Lack of Accountability: When patients experience serious side effects after being influenced by these ads, pharmaceutical companies should be held more accountable. There should be stronger safeguards for monitoring adverse effects and clear legal pathways for affected consumers.

Possible Solutions to Consider:
• Restrict or Ban DTC Advertising: Many countries don’t allow these ads, prioritizing medical guidance over consumer marketing.
• Stricter Guidelines for Content: Ads could be more educational, focusing on the condition rather than the drug, and providing a balanced view of potential risks.
• Enhanced Accountability: Companies should face stricter penalties for misleading ads and be required to conduct rigorous, transparent post-marketing surveillance of side effects.

What do you think? Should we reconsider how these ads are regulated in the U.S. to better protect consumers and ensure that prescriptions are based on true medical need?

Dennis, thank you for your comment. My 30yr old daughter was just diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis last year! It took almost a year for diagnosis and only because we have friends that are in that field and helped us.
We’ve been reading and reading for a year and are eyeballing the carnivore diet for her and see what happens. Please let me know if that’s what you did or what you did. We are open to natural because biologics, although they’ve enabled her to be able to live again, are scary drugs. THANK YOU!

I completely agree @MartyW, and I think there’s an even bigger issue at play here. The pharmaceutical industry’s vast resources allow them to dominate advertising and lobbying efforts, which skews the narrative toward their treatments as the primary (or only) option. Meanwhile, homeopathic and natural treatments, which can’t be patented and don’t generate the same profits, struggle to compete for attention or funding.

What we need is a more transparent and balanced healthcare system—one where patients are given a full spectrum of options, from pharmaceutical to homeopathic, and can make informed choices based on evidence rather than marketing. This would empower people to consider alternative treatments when appropriate and could help address the frustration many feel with the current profit-driven focus of modern medicine.

The goal should be a healthcare system that prioritizes patient outcomes and informed choice, rather than one dominated by whichever industry has the most money to spend on lobbying and advertising. What do you think—would changes like increased research support for alternative treatments, improved patient education, and limits on direct-to-consumer drug ads help create a more balanced approach?

@MartyW Dennis, I’m intrigued by your mention of natural treatments like turmeric, ginger, and dietary changes. It’s incredible to hear that these alternatives made such a positive impact for you, especially when you felt let down by conventional medicine.

@nd2356 Nichole, it sounds like your daughter isconsidering the carnivore diet as a potential next step, and I’d love to hear how that journey goes if she decides to try it. I think stories like yours highlight the importance of sharing our experiences with alternative treatments, as they often don’t get the same visibility or validation as pharmaceutical options.

Hopefully, this discussion can spark more thoughts from you and others on what a more balanced healthcare system might look like—one that gives equal weight to both natural and pharmaceutical treatments, and truly prioritizes patient choice and well-being. I’d love to hear more ideas on how we could collectively push for changes that increase access to holistic care and reduce the overwhelming influence of big pharmaceutical companies.
