Ban Lobbyists and SuperPacs

Our democracy was built on the principle of one person, one vote. Yet, today, the voices of everyday Americans are being drowned out by a tidal wave of money and influence from lobbyists and Super PACs. This is not just a problem; it’s a crisis that threatens the foundation of our republic. The time has come to reclaim our democracy and put the power back where it belongs: in the hands of the people.

The Problem: Corruption in Plain Sight

Lobbyists and Super PACs have turned our political system into a pay-to-play scheme:

• Lobbyists use their deep pockets to buy access, shape legislation, and prioritize corporate interests over public good.

• Super PACs, fueled by unlimited contributions from billionaires and corporations, flood elections with misleading ads and influence candidates who become beholden to their donors instead of their constituents.

The result? Policies that favor the wealthy and well-connected while everyday Americans are left behind. Healthcare reform, climate action, fair wages—these issues are stalled because money talks louder than we do.

The Solution: A Clean Break from Corruption

To restore faith in our political system, we propose a comprehensive ban on lobbyists and Super PACs, combined with sweeping reforms to ensure fairness and transparency:

  1. Ban Lobbyists: Eliminate the ability of paid lobbyists to influence lawmakers through money or gifts. Replace lobbying with citizen advocacy councils that allow direct input from constituents.

  2. Abolish Super PACs: End the loophole that allows unlimited spending in elections by enacting strict caps on campaign contributions and spending.

  3. Public Campaign Financing: Level the playing field with publicly funded elections, ensuring candidates are accountable only to their voters—not big donors.

  4. Transparency in Government: Require real-time disclosure of campaign donations and meetings with interest groups to eliminate backroom deals.

Why This Will Work: Historical Precedent and Public Support

• Similar reforms have succeeded in countries like Canada and the UK, where strict limits on campaign financing ensure that elections are about ideas, not money.

• Americans overwhelmingly support this change: According to a recent poll, 75% of voters believe that money has too much influence in politics, and 88% support laws limiting campaign contributions.

The Benefits: A Democracy for Everyone

• Representation for All: Decisions will be based on the needs of everyday citizens, not corporations or special interests.

• Trust Restored: Americans will regain confidence in a system that truly represents them.

• Policy Progress: Freed from the shackles of special interest money, lawmakers can tackle pressing issues like education, healthcare, and climate change.

Conclusion: Join the Movement

This isn’t just a proposal—it’s a moral imperative. By banning lobbyists and Super PACs, we can restore the balance of power in our democracy and create a government that serves all Americans, not just the privileged few.

The fight for our democracy starts today. Will you stand with us? Together, we can build a future where every voice matters—not just the wealthiest.

Regarding #1 & #4: Instead of “banning lobbyists” it may be more effective to make it financially too expensive/impossible for lobbyists to influence our law makers. Consider voting to move Congressman to work in their home states, closing DC for most of the months/year. See below…
