Ban LED lights (or at least give people a choice)

This is not as detailed as it should but the basic thing to know is that LED lights 24 hours a day without a choice is a very bad thing for our health. LED lights flicker at a very rapid pace (unseen by the eye but felt nevertheless), they cause migraines in some people and degenerate the eye. I’ve provided two links at the end for anyone who cares enough to begin looking into it (as with everything, there’s a lot of propaganda so it’s best to avoid the mainstream and look into the research that has been done).

They are a HORRIBLE option for headlights, blinding to other drivers. They are a HORRIBLE option for flashlights. They are a HORRIBLE option in any capacity. LED is a bad light for reading, it’s bad for the skin, they are even causing depression and hormone disruption, and for all this, I haven’t noticed any savings at all in my energy bill. Not a single dollar, in fact, I’m always having to buy new lightbulbs because of how crappy these new LED ones are.

We have always had choices when it comes to our homes (and our health) and, suddenly, without any kind of poll that I’m aware of, we were left without a choice.

This happened, supposedly, due to new laws on lighting efficiency that were put in place and, also supposedly, because incandescent and halogen bulbs didn’t make the cut. Seems like baloney.

Many of us want and need the incandescent and halogen options available. There are lamps I can’t use because the bulbs don’t exist in the market anymore and the warm glow of incandescent or halogen bulbs is very missed in my household.

This may sound like conspiracy theorizing but there have been so many little decisions in the past four years designed to harm our health that it’s hard not to see it as one big one.

We need to, at least, get a choice. Where I live there is NO CHOICE AT ALL BUT LED.

Please. Bring back the incandescent and halogen light bulbs to the market.

I miss the incandescent bulbs!!!

I totally agree. The led is harmful though it does save a lot of money in my electric bill. We definitely need safer energy and you sound educated and researched this topic.

Agreed - bring back incandescents and rid us of LED lights that are bad for our health

As someone that suffers from migraines frequently, I completely agree with this. Especially when driving or out at night. It’s terrible and there have been times I could not see the road at all when they’re coming towards me!

I am not convinced re the alleged harms of LED lights, but if you want an option incandescent or halogen, I have no objections.

I absolutely AGREE :100: about the use of them in cars that not regulated because I have light sensitivity and am routinely blinded by ignorant young people who don’t know that to drive with high beams on when you’re behind someone once was ticketed. It no longer is. They do it all the time to bully. Gotta stop it. The car industry too, had enabled this behavior by installing super bright lights as options.

Perhaps we might better fix the issue by reducing the number of bans on products and let a free market economy dictate which items survive and which do not.

If we ban LED lights and there is already some existing local ban on incandecent lights, then a lot of us will be walking around in the dark. How about, we get govt out of the business of controlling the markets (for whatever nobel or just cause) and let free markets control the markets. Let’s simply remove the ban/control/taxation/policies/etc against incandescent bulbs and allow Americans a choice. If the latter is truly what they want, then they will come back on their own via routine supply and demand pressures. If others prefer LED lights, then it would be unfair and unAmerican to restrict their access to them, considering the amount of money they save many households while remaining cool and not heating their houses up in the summer time. Simply logical and straight-forward, and everyone is happy, dont you think?

Now when it comes to the bright LED lights on cars, you bring up a legitimate concern, since they light affects other people negatively. Instead of banning any sort of headlight bulb, we should probably find that common ground between safety and comfort for both the driver of the vehicle and the driver of the approaching vehicle (ie: maximum lumen output, types of frequency emissions across the entire spectrum, effects on biological systems - especially the eyes, and so forth). Then we can set these restriction on the headlamps before they are actually created on the factory floors, bringing them into compliance when they hit the store shelves.

And finally, if you are renting your place and they use LED for cost controls and fire hazard risk reductions, it is probably not fair to ask them to switch, since they own the property. After all, if you chose to move into that facility, knowing they used LED lighting, then you implicitly agreed to using it when you signed a rental agreement.

My two cents on it. Thx. :sunglasses:

Also, the light pollution that they cause is out of control. I have lived in a rural area for 11 years and have seen a drastic change in the night sky due to light pollution.

So first if led lights is problem avoid driving at night. Second, Led lighting is only toxic indoors and i can’t even say that because running central air or air purifiers that everyone should have will prevent toxins anyway. Another issue is how much wattage is being saved and how your wiring is not being burned from the power needed to run non-LED lighting. My option is the coloring. Amber or yellow lights scientifically does not harm the human eye. So mandating only Yellow or Amber headlights is a better argument.

Policy 1. No vehicle should have any headlight coloring other than Yellow or Amber.

Policy 2. High beams should notify driver if on for more than 2 minutes.

Policy 3. Headlights on newer vehicles should point slightly towards the road and not straight or up unless high beams are activated.

We have dimmers that we can attach to our lamps but they only work with incandescent bulbs. They make new ones that will work with the LED, but want to use the ones we already have. So bring back the incandescent bulbs. Trump needs to do this now…

In my opinion this was a very good point. I’d also like to add, at least as far as I’ve experienced with the LEDs, they are crazy expensive compared to incandescent bulbs and they don’t have the life expectancy I’d expect. I also find that their actual light output in lumens does NOT compare to that of an incandescent bulb. They’re definitely harsher on the eyes, as well.

I agree that people should have a choice to buy whatever lightbulbs they want. Personally, I much prefer the lighting quality of incandescent lightbulbs. And people with LED headlights on their cars need to have them properly adjusted so they aren’t pointing too high and blinding drivers.

Can’t get them in California…have to ship to my son in Texas and then he ships to me. Ridiculous!!!

I’ll only be responding to the topic of LED headlights in this reply;

LED headlights are NOT the issue, the issue lies in the headlight assembly themselves. The cars you are being blinded by are mostly older vehicles that have been converted to LED by an owner at some point by adding an LED conversion to the stock headlight assembly, these assemblies are not designed for LEDs and/or HIDs and throw light in all directions.

Newer vehicles that come equipped with LEDs from factory typically have a projector style lamp that has a very sharp break at the limits of projection, causing very good visibility on the road surface with very little light bleed straight forward (what is blinding you).

Even newer yet vehicles can be equipped with zone lighting where sensors in the bumper and/or windshield can detect oncoming vehicles and selectively dim the headlight in that area, see video below;

I absolutely agree. I also believe LED headlights should be outlawed because of their blinding safety hazard. And the incandescent lights are soooo much easier on the eyes, and the nervous system.

If you work, as I do, you cannot avoid driving in the dark during the winter months.

Where in Texas can you get them? I am in DFW and can never find any except the little ones for nightlights and appliances. Thank you

It’s pretty bad when you have to buy incandescent lights on the “black” market on eBay in order to be able to light your home. I have had migraines for many many years and decided that LED lights would not work in my home so I took them all out and donated them because some people do like them, but I don’t. I want the option in my home, the government has no right to tell me what kind of lightbulbs to put in my house! Please, please! Give us back the choice!

I buy them on Amazon and ship them to my son’s house and then he ships them to me. And conveniently the ones I bought are out of stock
