American Education Reform

We need to reform how high schools and colleges are fundamentally organized.

On the high school level:

  • Encourage the blue collar trades such as welding, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, automotive etc… This would employ more “shop” style classes that teach valuable lessons to the youth.
  • Teach valuable life lessons in lieu of baseless classes. Lessons such as how to handle personal family finance, insurance, personal trading, understanding 401ks, retirement funds, types of interest, etc… encourage financial freedom and stability at a young age. As well as, important life lessons such as how to change a tire, shut off water in your home during an emergency, etc…
  • Promote to upcoming high school graduates the utilization of more affordable junior and community colleges for the first 2 years before transferring into over priced 4 year universities. This will help promote much needed trades through certifications and associate’s degree programs such as nursing, welding, etc…

On a collegiate level:

  • Stop pushing anti-American values in our schools
  • Only approve federal student loans for useful degrees that will help society progress
  • Take the board of regents requirements for classes that are not pertinent to a particular degree/unrelated general education courses out of the requirements for a particular degree.
  • Stop allowing tax dollars to fund grants for degrees that do not benefit the welfare of society
  • Transparency in university fees. Tuition and fee bills should not be allowed to bury hidden fees that offer no explanation or vague explanations as to where the funds will be allotted.
  • End departmentalized exams. As it sits, these colleges have what is considered “departmentalized exams” which is an exam in which the respective department distributes to a number of teachers to administer. This causes teachers to stick to a strict classroom agenda which eliminates the the ability of teaching freedom in a particular subject to curtail to a particular class sections needs.
  • Promote non-traditional students, students who have gone back to school to better themselves at an older age.
  • Stop allowing publicly funded universities from requiring students (freshmen in particular) to live on campus in over priced on-campus student housing that causes more student loan debt.

Students in the American Education System are the future of this country. As a society we should want the youth to excel in life and live prosperous lives that allow them to live out the American dream. When high school students graduate, most of the time they are already considered legal adults, which is why they should have the knowledge to live like adults. Additionally, the college system is a scam, approximately 30-60 of the 120 hours required to obtain a bachelor’s degree is fluff and nonsensical classes which raise the cost of education and increase the national student loan debt. If the argument for “showing up somewhere consistently for four years” is present, then make the classes needed for graduation pertinent to the degree. As of now, college graduates struggle to find jobs that do not require experience, so transfer these fluff hours into internships or externships, or promote classes that would teach what is otherwise known as “on the job training”.

Currently the American Education system is failing our youth and not setting individuals up for success in life. We are being vastly surpassed by other countries. In America as we stand, education does not equal intelligence. This needs to change. The importance of education needs to be brought back and not viewed as just a piece of paper that says you completed your 4 year indoctrination camp at the cost of a life-long loan. This plan will afford the youth of our country to be able to live prosperous lives and live out the American Dream.
