Disagree. While there has been hypocrisy in the expansion of Nato. I think we need to have some form of military cooperation to support our democracy in the wake of authoritarianism growing.
Authoritarianism was growing rapidly until last Tuesday. Now, with hard work, luck, and God’s grace, we may see it roll back in the United States. Europe, however, is still a mess. The UK is literally jailing people for Facebook posts. Apparently in Germany you can get locked up for singing “Auslander raus.” It’s insane, and it’s not the kind of “democracy” I want anything to do with. And another point, the United States is not a democracy, it is a representative republic. We have a Constitution that protects the rights of the minority to spread government defined “mis-information” like, “hey, the COVID vaxx is neither safe nor effective,” without being un-personed by our own government.
Sorry, strayed off topic…military cooperation can and will continue when foreign nations’ interests align with the interests of the United States. Governments and militaries can cooperate without the existence of formal alliances binding their fates together. For example, the United States has no formal treaty of alliance with Ukraine. But we do have a “Bilateral Security Agreement Between the United States of America and Ukraine” signed between Biden and Zelensky last June. The document was never confirmed by the Senate and therefore does not have the legal effect of a treaty, but we are still able to cooperate with Ukraine (speaking of authoritarianism!).
If Americans are really concerned about their future safety and security, they ought to be focusing on Chyna, not the Soviet Union (since it’s been gone for three decades).
It would be better to start over from the ground up with a new alliance that had a new mission statement in mind rather than continuing to press forward with an organization whose original purpose long stopped existing.
You cant have nato without nasa usa need the power
True. NATO has outlived its usefulness.
We are the ones funding it, and the other countries hate Trump / us.
