The purpose of the NATO alliance was to oppose the expansion of the Soviet Union. There hasn’t been a Soviet Union for more than three decades. There is no reason for the United States to remain in NATO. Europe can pay for their own defense. Or not. We should care first about what happens to America, and our 34 trillion dollar black-hole of debt.
There is no threat of Russia conquering the rest of Europe. They do not have the economic power to do so. They could not have even afforded to invade Ukraine if it hadn’t been for the Biden Regime’s energy policies providing a sudden economic boom for the Russians. Perhaps if the Europeans had to defend themselves from the Bogeyman, they’d reconsider constantly provoking Russia by expanding the alliance eastward.
Kennedy originally supported withdrawal from NATO but later said we should instead turn it into an instrument of peace rather than confrontation with Russia. I like the idea of inviting Russia into NATO.
From what I’ve read since I was a baby in the early 2000s, Russia wanted to join NATO, but we shut the door on them, which one could argue pushed them into the hands of China, which every expert warned against.
I agree with your perspective. During the conflict between Serbia and Bosnia, Serbia faced opposition, in part, due to its Christian identity, while Bosnia had a strong Islamic influence, rooted in historical conversions during the Ottoman Empire. As Serbia gained the upper hand, the U.S. and NATO intervened, supporting Bosnia and shaping public opinion through propaganda, much of which went unnoticed by many Americans at the time. Only in recent years have some of the societal challenges related to Islamic influence in certain European countries, such as the UK and Germany, become more apparent. NATO’s actions have often aligned with its own interests rather than responding to critical needs, and it’s worth reconsidering the stance toward Russia, a country that still upholds values like family and Christian principles, which were once central to American society. The influence of progressive policies in the U.S. is a cause for concern, and it may be time to reassess the direction in which the country is heading.
We already have the United Nations and European Union. NATO is purely military and continues to try to expand closer and closer to Russia. How did the US react to nukes in Cuba? We were ready to blow them the F up. How do you think Russia feels when we keep arming countries like Ukraine who aren’t even part of NATO?
Completely agree! I had many debates with friends about the whole Russia-Ukraine war with this same point. America’s feelings regarding Cuba is the same as Russia’s towards Ukraine. The double standards are not going to create peace.
NATO was never supposed to expand eastward, yet it did—slowly but surely, breaking the original understanding. The Biden administration tried to push Ukraine into NATO and even considered housing nuclear weapons there. Anyone who understands Russia’s history knows they were never going to stand for that. It’s not about defending Russia’s invasion of Ukraine; it’s about recognizing that they felt trapped, and we should acknowledge that. During the Cuban Missile Crisis, we nearly went to war over the mere idea of Soviet nukes in our backyard. But cooler heads prevailed back then. We need to channel JFK’s vision now, especially when it comes to avoiding catastrophic conflict.
Why does NATO even exist anymore? It was created to counter the USSR, which dissolved decades ago. If Europe can’t find a way to coexist with Russia, why should that be our endless responsibility? Europe should handle its own security issues instead of dragging the U.S. into another generation of Cold War politics. I wasn’t even alive during the Cold War, and yet, here we are, still playing the same geopolitical games. At some point, we have to move forward and stop reliving the same conflicts.
USA seems to be the one footing the bill on all of these organizations: “UN”, “NATO”, “WHO”, etc. I want taxpayer dollars to stay within US, without exception.
I agree that we need to end our alliance to NATO if changes can’t be made. The concern if we don’t pull out completely is that it is too far down the road and they seem to be pushing for a one world government in which we absolutely do not want!
No, we must not withdraw from NATO. This is the alliance of civilized countries, it does not limit member nation sovereignty in any way, and is a great tool to keep member nations engaged, relevant and responsible. It also discourages adventurism on the part of Russia and other potential adversaries.
While discussing national defense, I would add that we, the US, must ensure the continued sovereignty and territorial integrity of Israel and Ukraine. We cannot revert back to a 19th century international order. If we start allowing countries to violate the territories of sovereign nations with impunity, what we have left of world peace could easily unravel.
