Why must a president only serve 8 years?
Shouldn’t we the people have the right to repeat the election of a successful president regardless of how many terms they’ve already served?
Because the normal Presidential term is 4 years and Presidents are limited to 2 terms (plus two extra years if they enter office over halfway through another term)
Because FDR basically served for life after finally breaking the long-held standard set by George Washington and it would be better to have an automatic system in place to remove presidents who want to stay in office too long than to open the door to presidents who might actually go a good job with an extra term or two.
Imagine, if you will, if Obama had been allowed to run for additional terms beyond the two he had and actually won.
I believe presidential term limits are a good thing. Term limits should also be applied to Congress. Just look at all the career politicians that are there and up to no good. Imagine having a career president who is up to no good.
I believe it should be 8 years at a time then they can run again with a 4 year gap.
