Welfare Reform

As americans we need to revamp the way we handle the welfare system. To many people take advantage of the current system.

I propose we use corporations that benefit from tax breaks to keep a small roster available that can only be filled by welfare recipients.

The recipients will continue to receive welfare while learning a trade in lieu of a paycheck. While the corporations will recieve a tax credit for untrained labor.

It will allow the recipients to gain a useful trade skill while also contributing to society.

If we set a limit to the amount of time someone can recieve welfare while also teaching them skills to better their position in the workforce would benefit all.

As to “baby factories” who use the system to their favor, any recipients of welfare who become pregnant while receiving aid should be revoked from receiving any further aid.

The possibilities are limitless if we make people actually contribute to society instead of living off government assistance.

I completely agree with the idea that welfare recipients have to somehow pay it forward. Getting help is one thing, but there are generational families living off of welfare. How does this help them or the country? This is no real help to them, in fact, I would argue it binds them as currently deployed.
Welfare needs to be radically reformed.

I suggest that able-bodied, adult welfare recipients should be required to have some sort of employment or even be in trade school with a cap on welfare to encourage completion of trade school or incentivize employment. It is okay to need and get supplemental support when you are struggling, but living off of the tax payer indefinitely should no longer be an option. This benefits no one.

Now, the flip side to this is, the government has the obligation to ensure America is an attractive place for businesses to invest which creates job opportunities. We have to ensure that there are ample job opportunities for all and that everyone can have the opportunity to upskill themselves so that they can compete for these jobs and eventually, no longer need welfare.

People have to have a pathway to self sustaining pursuit of happiness.

I would add mandatory drug testing and lifetime cap emergency only assistance. There should be NO ONE living on the American taxpayers money long term. It should also be for American citizens ONLY. I agree with job and training assistance and like the idea of corporate tax breaks for it.

I love the idea on trade learning and incentives for companies to train workers. I worked in a worker recruitment office for about 3 years. People with horrible backgrounds (felonies, violence, drugs) would come in apply for jobs stating they needed 18 to 20 dollars per hour! I was like yeah me too (I live in KY where average pay is around 10 to 15 per hour). I finally asked why they wanted/needed so much. It was because that’s what it would take to sustain their lives they currently had on welfare. Our system is designed to fail. You take a job making $10 per hour you lose all assistance. So I say we base it off of income. Ok you make this per week and shave off what is handed out. Classes need to be taught. You need food stamps ok but you have to show up for x amount of hours or budgeting cooking and saving food. It creates jobs while helping those who honestly have no idea how to do this. Also those who take jobs to be trained what for the time they need to refile for assistance and then stop showing up for work need to be monitored closer too. Nothing more frustrating than training someone just for them to quit as soon as trained. Drug testing needs to be part of it too.

Having worked in public services with low income populations for the past two decades…I can say this system is broken. The food stamps are sold or traded for drugs, used to buy horrible food and sugar drinks for kids, or even not applied for because of the complex applications. Similar to social security. This system should have limits. They should have to drug test. They should not be allowed to buy soda and candy with it. I think the good ole days where we waited in line for beans and cheese and what not was better than this. People on food stamps eat better than those working and contributing to the system that feeds them.

Eliminate the option of cash assistance on welfare. I have personally rang up cigarettes and dog food on EBT cash cards. That option is always going to be abused, it’s inevitable. Also all ebt food stamps should mimic the wick checks where there are complete restrictions on options for purchase. Food stamps are for food, not Red Bull, little Debbie snacks, 70$ birthday cakes. For anyone questioning if it could be done on all restricted products, it is a flip of a switch at the stores.

I have similar ideas but my approach is different. I believe in providing solutions to limit dependencies. Because cutting someone off welfare doesn’t do much good and usually makes a person’s situation worse.

There is a lot of detail in my post

I don’t think you should get an increase in food stamps when you have more children. If you can’t feed one child, then you shouldn’t continue having them.

I agree with this 100%.
There either needs to be a work requirement, or a person must donate time to a list of specific charities (ie Wounded Warriors, Tunnels to Towers etc)
No more extra money for having babies
Need negative drug test for any type of benefits. If you test positive, then you must goto some sort of drug counseling, you test negative again, you lost your benefits for a certain amount of time. How are the people paying for the drugs?
We also need way for the people who do get benefits can only use them for things that are “necessity”. Seen way too many people that I know are on benefits driving luxury cars.

I think this is something that DOGE should take a look at also, come at it from a few different ways, there is so much money wasted.
