As the mother of a Survor in a work place mass shooting just under 2 years ago. We learned that there is really no support for these victims and not all work place shooting fall under workmans comp in which laws need to be changed to make it easier for employers to be held accountable when they neglect to act on reports and complaints from employees . We have stuggled so hard with the mental and physical issues as well. There should be resources set in place for victums of this type of crime to be able to come together and help one another. The truth is that no one really knows how to deal with this type of issue.
Sorry for your loss. You have to be careful as the one that was violent is to blame, not the company. Put yourselves in the shoes of the owner. They cannot possibly know at any given second if someone is going to violate the law. I understand wanting to control the pain and follow-up after but putting laws in place blaming buildings, companies, owners is an overreach of power. Still there would need to be a middle and I’m not sure what that looks like. If an HR dept knew there was a red flag and didn’t follow up that is not okay. But if they let that person go and they lost control…you can see how that may not help. Possibly looking at and implementing red flag laws for menta issues may work?
