There needs to be un update on determining approval and long term use of EBT. There are other social programs that are being over used, but EBT changes could help many Americans today.
Suggested changes
- limit on long term use of EBT (families can be on full EBT for maximum of 5 years, after that the benefits would lower over a period of time) this would help encourage people to be able to provide for themselves instead of trying to live off the system.
- income limit exceptions (single parents working full time making less than 15% over the income limit can be approved for 1 year, reduces to 10% the next year and so on)
- Anyone getting EBT must complete online courses on budgeting, long term savings, resume building, ECT.
- Families on EBT must have at least 1 adult working at least 40 hours per week, families with no children under school age must have 1 adult working at least 40 hours per week, and 1 adult working at least 20 hours per week.
- All bills should be submitted when applying for EBT. Along with bank statements from the past 90 days. Any family with unnecessary purchases (subscriptions, excessive fast food, ECT.) will not be approved until these charges have been stopped for 60 days. Any family’s found to have the payments deemed a want over a need will be required to pay back any benefits they used during that time.
- Families who purchase more healthy foods over unhealthy foods can receive bonuses on their next months benefits
- Anyone receiving benefits, making minimum wage, should be required to be actively searching for higher pay positions or promotions within their company.
Id love for others to share their ideas on how to change the system to encourage people to use it to help them get on their feet and support themselves and their families on their own. Currently the EBT system is used by a lot of people as a long term use that they try to stay on as long as possible.
