Every year, an increasing number of US citizens owing half a million in medical school debt are being displaced from being about to practice medicine in America by foreign medical graduates. The US post graduate training is required to practice medicine in the United States. Without which, there is no realistic way to pay back their debt to be physicians. The number of US graduates is over 10K that can’t become doctors because a number of the spots are being used to train foreign medical graduates that owe very little or no debt relatively. The US tax payer, through Medicare pays $120-145K to train these US medical residents in post graduate medical training and US citizens must have priority over their foreign counterparts. Just like in Germany, they prioritize their own citizens or gratuities from their own medical schools before allowing graduates from other countries fill those spots. This is common sense but most of the US public is completely oblivious to these struggles. Most US medical school graduates have put their dreams of buying a home or starting a family on hold for a decade to achieve their dream of becoming a physician. And still having to pay taxes and all the debt back for another 5-10 years after getting their license to practice medicine. Please consider a policy that prioritizes the US Medical school graduates for post graduate medical residency training so that they can pay off their debt and practice medicine with the citizens of this nation they know and love.
