Universal Income

I am recommending a Universal Basic Income for people that make less than a certain amount of money each year. I believe if this policy was implemented, it would allow our society to progress and evolve into something amazing. We could accomplish things that until now, have only been a dream. Some of the most brilliant people among us spend their lives focusing on paying rent and feeding their families. If we gave everyone enough money each month to take care of these issues, they could then focus their energy on other things.

If everyone recieved $1,000 a month, that would be enough to ensure they could afford housing and possibly buy some groceries. This would solve our homelessness issue that is overwhelming our country at this time, or at least drastically reduce it. I believe it would also have a great impact on our ever-growing prison population. There are a lot of people incarcerated for selling drugs or stealing to support their families. A UBI would eliminate those people being incarcerated and save the American tax payer from having to pay to house them in jail.

I believe housing and food are 2 things that every person on this earth should have access to no matter what. A UBI would allow everyone better access to these things. If we want our future to become the utopia we all dream of, then we have to take care of our poor. The majority of people in our society focus most of their energy on paying bills. By freeing up this energy, by providing a UBI, we can all focus on making this world a better place. We can really make America great again!

I might consider this if it is paired with eliminating Social Security. Pay out those that have contributed to SS. Replace it with a UBI.

“UBI” like this encourages laziness, and will make everything more expensive, NEGATING ANY POTENTIAL BENEFIT. Whenever you pay a large group such things from the government, things get more expensive. It is different if it comes from people or companies, as there is a definite limit. In many areas, $1000 is NOT enough to have housing, In th 1980s, I was paying over $600 for a little apartment. From what I understand now, in the same area, it could be $5000 in that area. Besides, you need money for travel, utilities, education, etc… $1000 UBI, IF IT DID NOT CAUSE INFLATION, is $12000/year. The current federal minimum wage, assuming 40 hours a week, and holidays, AND NO INFLATION, is $14790/year,

Better to create a robust economy rather than more social services. Make food and housing more affordable and create jobs while also providing more affordable higher education opportunities and expanding opportunities for apprenticeships in trade skills which we are in desperate need.

You missed the whole point of “Universal”

When Andrew Yang proposed UBI, he meant EVERYBODY and anybody who opted in. You’re proposing welfare, which destroys peoples ability to emerge from poverty because earning more effectively punishes you.

Furthermore, Yang’s version of UBI was used to incentivize compliance, because he paired it with the concept of social credit. If you said things against the status quo online, for example, the govt had the right to revoke your UBI. It’s a way to technically leave free speech intact while simultaneously using the govt to punish wrongthink.

Let’s SIMPLIFY THIS!
In 1960 $1000 was equal to $10,664.32 today!
SO $1000 today was equal to $93.77 in 1960!
SOOOOOOO why not pay them $93,77, or better yet NOTHING!
When the US was originally settled, they DID try to have a $0 income! In fact people COULD freely hunt and forage. But they DID have a community garden, etc… You know what happened? Nobody bothered to even tend it after a while. They eventually SCRAPPED that!

But you CAN’T pay people for doing nothing! It simply devalues the currency. MONEY IS SUPPOSED TO BE FOR BARTER!!!

One woman on some social site said that inflation is caused because people find out money is worth less, so just don’t tell them! She thought that was so obvious! The problem is her initial idea is WRONG! Inflation is caused because people NEED more money! So if you make a meal, and it suddenly costs double, you have to pay twice as much… If you determine that overall, your costs have tripled, you will likely try to get three times as much. If you boss is willing, GREAT! But if you work at a place that cant scale, like a person flipping burgers, and they give you that raise, the cost of the products will likely go up, meaning OTHERS now have to pay more! Eventually, they will CUT BACK, and your employers may go out of business. I said this even decades ago and at times like now, LOOK AROUND! IT IS HAPPENING!!!

I think UBI is a terrible idea. Removes incentives for some to work. There is satisfaction in earning your money. Seems like many don’t know or have forgotten.
