Truth in Media and Information Act

I feel like people today struggle to trust the news because it often feels like each side is pushing propaganda. I believe it should be punishable for news stations, radio hosts, journalists, and social media platforms to spread misinformation. They should be required to provide truthful information because we don’t want to make decisions or vote based on lies. However, to encourage accountability, media outlets would have a limited time (e.g., a few hours) to correct their mistakes without facing fines. They must publicly acknowledge the error to maintain transparency. This would be paired with requirements for independent fact-checking and quick corrections for mistakes, ensuring that platforms actively work to prevent misinformation. Additionally, transparency reports on anti-misinformation efforts would help keep companies accountable.

Before anyone says this violates free speech, keep in mind that you can get fined just for cursing on live TV. How is this any different?

I would like to see a very large fine of 10 million dollars for each false news item, and that money should go to a fund to help the homeless people. This would stop the false news or put them out of business and at the same time fund a much needed population
