Traffic blocking protesters

Any political protestor blocking TRAFFIC FLOW will automatically receive a 2 year prison sentence, have their licence revoked for 5 years and must pay a fine of $10,000

I disagree with the punishment mentioned. Traffic blocking protesters should be fined, so that it covers the cost of the arrest, booking, court costs, etc. The tax payers should not be footing the bill for people who force their opinions and complaints on us.

I went to make the same policy suggestion and yours popped up as “similar”. Mine is for ANY street blocking protesting, not just political, make it a FEDERAL crime and a $20,000 fine PLUS restitution and a 1 year prison sentence.

Understanding Protest vs. Violence

:speaking_head: What is a Protest?

Protesting is a constitutional right in public forums like sidewalks and parks. :national_park: When done peacefully and orderly, it’s protected speech!

Key Points:

  • Stay on sidewalks and obey traffic signals.
  • Do not block entrances or exits to businesses, or public right of ways.
  • Do not block public right of ways and disrupt vehicular or pedestrian traffic.
  • Permits are needed for street closures.

:no_entry_sign: Domestic terrorism is NOT a Protest!

  • Blocking pedestrian or vehicular traffic
  • Vandalism
  • Assault
  • Preventing emergency vehicle response

Breaking the law crosses the line from protest to potential terrorism. Let’s uphold our rights responsibly! :balance_scale:

The Consequences of Violence

:rotating_light: Riot vs. Protest: Know the Difference

A riot is a violent disturbance by a crowd. Inciting or participating in a riot can lead to serious legal consequences, including felonies.

:mag: Laws to Remember:

  • Inciting a riot causing over $1,500 in damages = Class F felony.

  • Up to 5 years in prison for those who aid or abet such acts.

Peaceful protests should be respected, but those committing crimes under the guise of protest must be held accountable.

:broken_heart: Remember the story of Reginald Denny, who faced life-threatening violence during a protest. He stopped his vehicle and they bashed his skull in with a brick!Let’s advocate for safe, lawful expression!

I’m guessing that this is covered in state laws, but hope something federal could be enacted. I would go further than traffic blockage during protests and riots. One of the things that. Has upset me for some time is how unevenly the laws are applied. BLM protesters turned to arson, assault, vandalism, traffic blockage, looting, etc. very little was done to apply laws to these people. If I had done any of those things, I’d still be in jail. The pro-Palestinian/anti-Israel movement regularly break laws on public streets and areas, on University campuses, and public events. Their speech is protected and their right to peacefully protest, but NOT what is happening on a regular basis.

Federal laws, if possible, should be enacted.

If not, then cities, Universities, etc who allow these civil disobedience happenings without protecting citizens and arresting, charging and fining/sentencing law breakers, should have funds withheld or reduced, And whatever other influences the Federal government can bring to bear to force adherence to the law.
