The idea of any elected or appointed government position being for “life” is completely monarchal. Justices should have two 6 to 8-year terms or three 4 to 6-year terms. This is the spirit of the Constitution and helps to prevent permanent, long-term damage to Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. There has been talk about increasing the number of justices to more accurately reflect the circuit courts and the increasing/changing demographic populace. I just believe that lifetime job security leads to abuse and complacency. It’s simple human nature, regardless of intelligence, motivation, or integrity. What are your thoughts everyone?

Interesting idea! At the very least I feel an age limit of 90 is prudent.
I agree. How can someone stay in a position like that just for basically being “good” . There are some who have been in the position for 30 years, new fresh minds are needed every so often to make sure we arent outdated and complacent
I have been saying this for 40+ yrs. No one should have a ‘LIFETIME’ job in government! Out in the ‘real’ world, people are FORCED to retire by 67 and most do not get a pension. I personally believe in the TERM LIMITS for local, state and federal… with a MANDATORY retirement at 67. yes that would upset the current administration… BUT, it would ALSO force the YOUNGER generation to get involved again!
NO TERM LIMITS! If court packing is the goal let’s go big or go home! Let every state legislature nominate one Supreme Court justice for life, if the total number of states is odd the federal government gets to nominate one Supreme Court justice for life. Let the existing judges resign or live out their appointments.
While we are changing the Supreme Court require federal Courts to hear all law suits between states, in addition allow two thirds of the states legislatures to require a case be heard!
