Tax Relief for Extracurricular Sports & Activites

Currently, many schools do not offer all sports programs, limiting students’ opportunities for physical activities and the benefits of sports, including learning to push through adversity, teamwork, discipline, and fitness.

Elementary Schools are reducing recess periods, which limits students’ opportunities for physical activity during the school day, alongside the lack of sports programs.

Access to extracurricular sports is challenging for low-income families due to financial constraints, limiting children’s participation due to costs for equipment, uniforms, and travel. This barrier restricts their enjoyment and benefits from sports.

In some regions, limited sports availability due to location restricts children’s access to facilities and teams, resulting in many missing out on sports participation. In regions with limited school sports, club sports may be the only athletic option for children. However, high participation costs can make club sports inaccessible for many families.

Providing more opportunities for children to participate in sports has numerous benefits. Engaging in sports helps kids stay active, reducing their time spent on electronics and keeping them out of trouble. Moreover, regular physical activity is crucial for maintaining physical health and overall well-being.

Addressing these barriers and making sports more accessible to all children is essential. By doing so, we can ensure that every child has the opportunity to enjoy the many benefits that come with participating in sports.

Offering some form of tax relief (deduction or credit) for families with children participating in sports or extracurricular activities would alleviate some of the financial strain that families encounter in keeping their kids engaged and active.
