One of the many topics we’ve heard a lot about recently is the Fact that FEMA is running out of money. When a natural disaster occurs this government organization known as FEMA steps up to the plate along with other nonprofit organizations, such as the American Red Cross in order to organize, facilitate, and distribute aid to those people in need. However, what we have learned in recent events is that, although FEMA and the American Red Cross do what they can, sometimes, it just isn’t enough.
We the people are in a position to directly help our fellow Americans in need in many ways. It can be anything from collecting and distributing food and necessary supplies, helping people get access to information,; we are fortunate enough to have strong, able bodied Americans, who are able to do manual and physical labor and task to help our fellow Americans in need.
This can be from debris removal, search and rescue, construction, and critical home repairs, transportation, Doctors and nurses providing emergency medical care.
To motivate the American people to donate their time and resources to their fellow Americans in need, Tax Credits for individuals or Businesses who step up to the plate Is an option!
Also, the establishment of a government agency to coordinate this.
The structure of this government agency can be very similar to the US peace corpse, a government agency which distributes people to foreign countries to help them in their time of need.
However, we do not have a government agency other than FEMA providing service like this. And from recent events in western North Carolina and Eastern Tennessee, we can see that the popular majority feels that FEMA actually got in the way more than it was helping.
The people want and need to help our own people, especially when they are in their most desperate and horrific times of need. This topic is to focus on three points:
-
Establishing a tax credit for People or businesses who step up to the plate in the form of volunteering to assist fellow Americans in their most desperate times of need after a natural disaster.
-
Establish a government agency separate from FEMA with a similar set up to the United States peace corps, Can assist in organizing, and mobilizing these generous fellow Americans in areas where they are most needed.
-
Establishing local agencies per state that can jump in to provide immediate aid and assistance in organizing volunteers at the most critical times of a natural disaster. this local agency may not require too much federal funding or state funding as it could be run by qualified volunteers. The people who run and assist the operations of this organization on a state level, would have very few paid salary workers, and would focus on recruitment of volunteers for day-to-day operations can result in credits for volunteer work for school, community service (probation requirements), Early release programs, And other national nonprofit organizations and partner with this agency to bring their volunteers and specific focus to the table to help
Recently in the Southern part of Spain, specifically Valencia, over 210 people died due to massive flooding. Social media showed us how the people of Spain stepped up to the plate and volunteered to help and save their own people. Spaniards traveled from all over the country is being to Valencia at the expense to a variety of tasks, including And rescue debris and mud removal, distribution of medical supplies, collection, and distribution of food and water, transportation, and so much more. The population of the United States is huge. The hearts of Americans are huge when Americans are called to step up to the plate they deliver.
The problem is, the only time they are called to step up to the plate is to die in a foreign war. This has to change. Possible Americans will step up to the plate for their fellow American. We just need somebody to organize it.
