Sugar tax

One tax that should be increased is “Sugar tax”. Sugar is harmful like Tobacco. It should be taxed at much higher rate.
Also not a bad idea to add label on sugary foods.

One option would be to stop protecting the sugar industry. Per the article referenced below, current agricultural programs protect the industry at an estimated cost of $700 million to $1.6 billion to US consumers and producers. Rather than protect the farmers lets protect the consumers. This is a program that has way outlived it usefulness but has a strong lobby to keep the cash flowing to a few wealthy producers. Taxes and disclosures on sugary products are a whole independent conversation we need to have. The costs to our healthcare system in terms of diabetes and obesity are too high to calculate. Who should pay?

Wow, no idea we were still subsidizing sugar. With apologies to the Fanjul family (my grandfather and father both cut sugar cane in Cuba), I support your suggestion!
