Substance Use & Special Education, End the Discrimination

A substance use disorder, as it’s currently defined, is not a disability under the Individuals with Disabilities Act or G.L.c. 71B. This is significant because without this recognition students who struggle with addiction do not have access to the essential rights and protections offered to any other student with a disability. The stigma associated with addiction still pervades our legal system. Let’s make this right, end the discrimination and make a substance use disorder worthy of special education.
