Student Data Privacy

Privacy is a 9th Amendment right that all citizens, including Pre-K-12 students, should be secure in and have maintained. The Dept. Of Labor, Agriculture, Military, Workforce services, researchers, scientists, and anyone not mentioned that has access to a student’s academic, medical and mental health, etc, that parents are not aware of and have not given expressed permission for, should not have access. Laws and policies enabling this collection including but not limited to, the State Longitudinal Data System, should be abolished.

Under the Obama Administration, then Sec. Of Education, Arne Duncan gutted the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) giving more access to student data to third parties and Government entities without parental consent.

Parents must understand that they are the primary caretakers of their students education. They must also understand the pros and cons to signing away their students private information. And that local control is best maintained between the school and the parent.
