Insurance companies have weaponized the prior authorization process against patients, doctors, and health systems. The prior authorization process exists for one reason and one reason only: to maximize insurance company profits by delaying or denying care to patients that need it. It introduces layers of inefficiency in doctors’ offices and health systems alike, ultimately leading to higher costs of care.

It slows doctors down so they see less patients which saves insurance companies money. It’s by design. Everything insurance companies do is to try to maximize profit.
