Stop Propaganda

President Trump needs to take action and sign an executive order to stop the use of propaganda in our country. When this happens, we are not getting the full truth and it becomes harder to make our own decisions.

Brainwashing tactics, which try to control how people think or feel, are dangerous for a free society. Americans deserve the right to think for themselves, without being influenced by one-sided information. When we are bombarded with propaganda, it can divide us and keep us from finding common ground.

It’s important for our leaders to protect our freedom of thought. By ending the use of propaganda, President Trump would be taking a stand for the American people’s right to know the truth and make informed decisions on their own. We need clear, honest communication, not manipulation. It’s time to let the people think for themselves!

I 100% agree! Obama legalized propaganda back in December of 2012 and this most definitely needs to be changed ASAP. Let’s make it a crime that nobody wants to face the consequences of.
We have to make it one bill one item only! No more 5,000 page delivered at 6:00 p.m. having to be voted on the next day being snuck in the fine print on page 4186. This is how they get away with so much corruption.

How the politicians are letting the propaganda act from Obama to still be in place is mind blowing. Just another example of collusion it needs to stop

Wrong. And your comment is the exact reason it needs banned. You don’t know the difference.

While they do have some similarities, advertising is used to remind, and persuade people about products. Propaganda is used to promote an agenda or point of view.

Propaganda is full of fear mongering, name calling. It’s nothing but evil manipulation used in dystopian societies, while marketing is just annoying advertising that you can’t get rid of.

All in all marketing is used to promote a product, propaganda is to influence an audience.

Hope this helps.

maybe that was the case but we have since lot a lot more about the sciences, including data science.
manipulating people has never been easier.

try this

or simply search “predatory marketing tactics”

hope that helps.

You’re correct, manipulating people has never been easier, that’s the whole point behind this. But again, there are still differences even between predatory marketing and propaganda. Like the others, they still have similarities as well. The goal…TO SELL. But in which ways is the problem.

Predatory marketing, like propaganda still use’s manipulative tactics by taking advantage of people emotions such as fears and desires in unethical ways. Take the pharmaceutical companies for instance. Perfect example, Covid… spread fear on diseases that make you want to get medicine, or in this case a shot. Or Selling supplements or “miracle cures” that claim to have health benefits without sufficient scientific evidence to back up the claims. They prey on people’s fears or desires for quick fixes to make a buck.

That is predatory marketing.

All in all they are both unethical and I can understand your points of views. selling is selling, but when it comes to our future as citizens and Americans, the propaganda and lies on elected officials and being pushed by mass media is what I’m leaning more towards. I don’t care what people want to waste their money on. If people don’t want to do research on products and buy cheap stuff and fall in line with the rest of the sheep, that’s on them. But stop with adding to politics. It will ruin our country.

This sounds pretty anti-free speech to me. How do you define propaganda? This has the same problem as hate speech laws.

Instead of “stopping propaganda” maybe propose policies that force transparency around who is paying for messaging to be pushed.

This is a 1A issue, and everyone interested in personal freedom should be against censorship in all forms, even with speech we disagree with.

That said, financial and lawfare relations between government and media deserve a hard look.

  • Eliminate government entanglement with media in most forms, and perhaps the information will improve with sunlight as the real disinfectant.
  • The first amendment should be the basis for government action eg FCC. While it sounds contradictory to the previous statement, legacy media must also be held to account for violating the ability of Americans to receive speech. Example: 60 minutes changing one answer from a candidate to another is a clear violation of every American’s right to receive speech from an elected official and presidential candidate.

What defines propaganda? Who decides what is propaganda?

You cannot ask a president to make such an executive order, it would probably be illegal. The First Amendment “guarantees freedom of expression by prohibiting Congress from restricting the press or the rights of individuals to speak freely.”

With Freedom of Speech you have to take the good with the bad, otherwise we’d have an authoritarian dictatorship. I understand completely what you are desiring though. Maybe a better approach would be to educate Americans on propaganda techniques and how to recognize them. Wikipedia has an excellent and long list of propaganda techniques - if people would just read up on these … or take a social psychology class they would learn to identify and defend themselves from these techniques.

I think the Trump White House should also make some efforts to deprogram Americans from the lies and hate perpetrated by fake news propaganda. Maybe have a trusted source engage in a media campaign to expose the propaganda, bit by bit, and prove that fake news lied to them. A great many people gave witness to their own deprogramming on X this summer/fall thanks to Elon Musk’s defense of free speech. Many Americans saw truth, which motivated them to figure out the lies with their own research and/or reading X posts and talking to other users. However, but there are many more Americans to go who do not necessarily use X. These Americans are suffering - they are now afraid, upset and experiencing mental stress and, in some cases, mental breakdowns due to President Trump’s 2024 win, because they have been misinformed about who President Trump is and what he will do as President. As a matter of nationwide mental healthcare, American unity, truth and a return to reality, this needs to be seriously addressed as the mental health crisis it is. The fake news, pundits and politicians perpetrating this propaganda have done so to drive the public into frenzy, and for too many Americans, they have been successful. The hatred fostered by propaganda has broken relationships, families, friends and fostered hatred between Americans. People are right now protesting democracy itself, partly due to false information they’ve been subjected to for years about President Trump and/or GOP/conservatives. Attention to the mental health issues this has caused, and some attempts to treat and/or cure the damage would do a lot to improve America and the lives of Americans IMO.

Lies and false reports are not free speech!

DO NOT VOTE FOR THIS!!!

This is a free speech issue. Who decides what is and and isn’t propaganda? Use your own discernment and use logic to recognize what is and isn’t true. Also learn to spot others’ motivations for lying.

We cannot afford to censor speech and restrain ideas and information, even at the risk of encountering untrue information.

Freedom of speech is too important. Restricting this speech will only result in more and more propaganda.

Yes, they are still “free speech” - the government cannot ban lies and false reports. They are just like defamatory statements - defamatory statements are also “free speech”, but can and do lead to liability for the damages they cause.

I agree. We had the Smith-Munda act that should have never been repealed.

I completely agree. Media companies should be fined a hefty penalty for any propaganda. There have been plenty of people unaliving themselves due to fear of Trump and what he will do to them. The media has brainwashed people into thinking that they have no choice but to flee the country, unalive themselves or to deal with the “consequences”. That is is harmful to our country and a threat to its people.

The Smith-Mundt “Modernization” Act of 2012 allows propaganda or “fake news” to be distributed to Americans to brainwash them, and with intent to influence public opinion by using mass media. This technique was formerly used by the CIA in foreign countries to overthrow governments and change narratives “for the good of the United States.” The corporately-owned news is full of lies and cannot be trusted. Turn off the 6 o’clock news, everyone. GovInfo

Yes they are, especially because no one should have a monopoly on truth. Free speech has very few limits, as it should.

If you claim to be a free speech supported you have a very unprincipled position.
