The word “science” gets thrown around a lot. However, approximately 2/3 of published scientific studies are estimated to be non-reproducible, likely due to questionable research practices (QRPs). Non-reproducibility is the opposite of science. The situation is maintained by the extreme publish-or-perish pressure placed on the scientific community (and various sources of interest most likely).
Pre- registration of study protocols is a well known solution/deterrent for many QRPs. The infrastructure for pre- registration is already in place via diverse platforms: osf.io, aspredicted.com, clinicaltrials.gov, zenodo.org etc.
Proposed policy: When creating an evidence base, publicly funded entities, following a date of implementation, will consider as their first and privilegded line of evidence only those scientific results with a clear pre-registration.
The pre-registered versus non-registered evidence bases will be juxtaposed for informational purposes towards future areas of investigation.
