Stop universities from prioritizing profit over helping their communities. The university in the next town over from me has repeatedly accepted more students than they can house which has effected the market in the entire county. Many new complexes have been built to accommodate students where the rent price is geared for students to share the dwelling and cost maximizing profits ($500-$700+ per bedroom x 3 or 4 rooms) making the monthly rent unaffordable to single families. Many single family homes are advertised, bought and used this way as well. It has now even started to spill over to the next town over where I live and can not find an affordable home for my families size. The town is not set up for the max influx of students and has caused safety hazards among our roadways as students pile onto sidewalks and stand in the way of traffic to get into a bar or walking to football games. This is a major issue every august for my community and I imagine other college towns as well. We need to stop universities from increasing their profit when it negatively effects the livelihood of year round residents.
