Parents unable to work due to providing full time care for special needs children should be given a stipend to help with living expenses related to the child or young adult’s 's care. Ideally, the funds would NOT be distributed by DDA or SSI, which are currently government agencies that dictate necessity and provide limited funding to those with disabilities. Many special needs parents struggle financially because of limited ability to earn income. The stipends would allow family care givers to meet financial obligations and have a voice in what’s required for their children and young adults to live happy, healthy and successful lives.
