It seems like the importation and exportation of America’s agricultural products is upside down. Why don’t our governments (federal, state, and local) promote feeding ourselves first with local products from local farms? When we walk into a grocery store the majority of the produce and products should be local or regional. The grocery store should BE the farmer’s market! Local food security should be prioritized, then regional, then interstate, and international exportation of the hard work of America’s farmers should be last. Why am I buying a tomato grown in Mexico when Hanover County, VA (which grows the best tomatoes in the world) is just 2 counties away? A return to family-owned farms that grow/raise a variety of agricultural products (I’m talking meat too) should be the norm and not the exception. Government subsidization of corn and soy is criminal. Giant feed lots in TX shouldn’t be feeding the entire country.
Should the federal government be doing more to facilitate agricultural exchanges between localities and states instead of promoting and incentivizing giant companies to produce a bunch of corn syrup and soybean oil?
