Incentivise business to build shading structures over parking lots and install solar panels on said structures.
Parking lots are dead space all over towns and cities and the space could be used for a positive by offering shade to parked vehicles, charging stations for electric and local energy sources to supplement reduction in energy cost.
Allow the property owner to maintain their own panels and not fall under the bureaucracy of a solar “farm”.
A business or property owner may choose to charge for parking or the use of vehicle charging.
About 20 years ago, I remember a husband-and-wife engineering team that created/invented solar octagon panels for parking lots and roads. These panels snapped together, lit up, and had heaters in them. They said the panels could make lines and the heater would allow snow to melt, so there was no need for plowing or salting. Can someone find this technology and can we start using it? I see solar farms as an eyesore. However, if we are going with solar farms can they be placed up high enough that the land under it can be used? Thank you and GOD bless this great nation
I believe this was a test done in the Netherlands and was pitched to replace road surfaces. However the panels were too expensive to replace and couldn’t handle the large traffic load. It would be cool to see it implemented once the technology is viable for long term use and cost went down.
It sounds like an idea until you look into it more.
Basically long story short is that most of them would likely get damaged by weather/need to be replaced before they ever produce more than they cost, unless they invent a new cheaper way to create them. The only reason they are used now is because government prints money and gives tax rebates towards their purchase to make them affordable.
If we put all the money we gave to Ukraine into our own infrastructure, all would be fixed—170 billion of your own money.
