When someone passes that is on Social Security, usually our elderly, they are expected to pay back that months social security. When mom passed this was a hardship for dad. That money was already used for bills that month. During a time when you are trying to figure out how to pay for funeral you get a letter from them expecting payment or they will deduct from his next month social security. My dad was okay because he had his kids to help. What about all the elderly that don’t have that? They paid into social security their whole life. This is a policy I wish someone would look into changing.

Social security reform must be a priority
- Stop taxing SS
- SS should only be available for those who have contributed to SS for 25 + years or their spouse. It shouldn’t be available to immigrants, period.
- Money stolen from SS by Congress should have to be paid back, and it should be illegal to borrow from it going forward. Stop the embezzlement.
- No having to pay SS back after a spouse passes away and
- No cutting SS payments when one spouse passes.
- Finally, we need a way for SS Funds to earn interest.
I am okay with the money being returned, however I don’t know how that would work for those already on SS. My parents being among them.
