Snowflake Adoption Addition For IVF Policy

President Trump has been saying he wants to allocate tax money to IVF treatments. This is a hugely helpful procedure for people wanting to be parents but has another side many are not aware of. For every one implanted embryo up to 20 more live ones are kept in cold storage, and are often discarded or destroyed by the parents. Many (but not the majority) people opt to give up their frozen embryos for adoption in a process called Snowflake Adoption.

I believe it would be beneficial to create a law mandating the medical centers to include the offer to give up the embryos in a closed adoption to adoptive parents.

In addition, I believe the procedure(s) of implantation should be covered under the same policy as the IVF procedures resulting in similar costs to the people who participate in said IVF program.

We live in a time of plummeting Fertility rates and many families would benefit greatly from this practice.

My husband and I were going down the path of snowflake adoption but had to come to a stop due some healthy issues I was having and needed surgery… combined with the cost of it! It is absolutely ridiculous how much it cost to adopt an embryo not just to the adoption program but to the fertility clinic two separate bills! And it’s not even a guarantee that a pregnancy will happen! And if it doesn’t happen. you are out a lot of money! Some programs will refund to a certain amount but that’s not always the case… I wanted to continue this path but with the cost of my medical procedure I needed and the cost of this there was No way! even through fundraising it wasn’t happening and we tried fundraising for months and it wasn’t even touching the surface of how much it was going to cost us! I think combining both coverage for both IVF and Snowflake Adoption would be so amazing! And maybe I can go back and try again!!
