I am a proud veteran that has three young adults in the service two sons and my only daughter one airforce two navy active duty servicemembers. These young people that chose to serve can barely pay their bills when they are charged hundreds of dollars from every paycheck to pay for meals. I have always felt that if you serve and were willing to sacrifice your life for our country we should be feeding them for free, especially now in this environment when we are giving money to illegal immigrants to purchase food and they havent opted to serve anyone or protect anything in this great nation. Our service men and women deserve to be able to afford to live on the small paychecks we offer them for such a large obligation without the government paying them only to turn right around and charge them for meals on base. Alot of these young folks cant even make it to the mess hall to eat due to the demands of their respective career paths however they are charged as if they eat every meal come pay day… this is wrong in my opinion. Recruiters have used this line as a tool for as long as i can remember free food free clothes free housing and money for college after service to get enlistees only for the people taking the oath to find out later this was not the case …there are catches to the promises made to them once they are in the service, and the general opinion is to just accept that the recruiter lied and move on …nothing to see here … these protectors of our freedom deserve better and should not have to worry about choosing between paying bills or eating. This proposal would put more money in the pockets of the servicemembers and their families reducing debt and improving morale, thank you for your consideration.
They actually are paid a monthly food allowance in their check.
Its taken back out if you live on base the only beneficiaries are servicemembers that live off base with bah bas baq ! On base kids have it pulled out and its different ammounts as to what state your stationed
Yes. I know. But it’s still paid to the service member in their check as a “food allowance.” Just like when you go to sea, or serve boots on ground in combat it is taken out. Essentially, your meals ARE paid for whether you live on or off base. I served 26yrs active duty. I know how it works. Your food is paid for and it is fair.
Well if u know how is it fair …so let me break it down from a current events standpoint …if you live on base in california your loosing 400+ for messhall meals for the month and the same service member lives in florida and pays 300+ for meals that they dont get to go to the mess hall to eat every day but are charged as if they do … how is that fair one state to another they dont live out in the community so cost of living on base should be similar its all government property …on base is on base …noone pays for mcdonalds and not go get their food …same scenerio for them they dont always get to go eat weather it is due to job demand training evolutions or pulling duty but are charged a flat fee no matter what… thats fair ? Anyone can see its not …thanks for your input but, our govt. Is allowing illegals debit cards to go eat whatever they choose while our servicemembers that protect our soverign freedoms are made to pay for meals weather they have the opportunity to eat or not they dont have a choice what DOD takes from their paycheck monthly … i stand with they shouldnt be given an allowance for “SHOW” then charged for a month of meals from every paycheck they earn …we all have experienced the govt. Playing games to seem right when clearly its not and ultimately the govt. wins and the people serving it have to suck it up …these young servicemeembers deserve a win in their benefits. God knows when they get out the VA is not going to be there for them as it should be if they need that benefit they earned in service of us!!
