Make America Fashionable Again. Jokes aside, the fashion industry is quickly dying. Due to high consumption, and demand for lower cost goods, the fashion industry is suffering. Not only is it leading to high textile waste (another topic of its own), the fashion industry has an incredible influence to consumers and businesses alike. Since 2020, the NYC garment district itself has been quickly fading. Thus, beautiful trades are closing or dying when the owner passes. Most manufacturing is now produced overseas, of course China being the largest contributor. However, there has been little incentive to revive the garment district and restore the trades quickly being lost. The fashion industry used to be one of New York City’s largest industry, and now only exists in 4 blocks worth. It’s not just an issue with manufacturing, but also suppliers, mills, tradesmen, seamstresses/tailors. The fashion industry is having no choice but to source, create, and produce overseas due to the high costs and lack of resources. We need to bring fresh policy back into this crippling industry to maintain American made goods, and preserve the crafts so easily taken for granted. I am hopeful this new administration will take action over and bring life to an industry that made America so great.
