Save our American Shrimpers

I work with our shrimpermen in America and they have been battling horrible prices for their shrimp due to farm raised imported shrimp coming into our country. This farm raised shrimp was dumped by the billions of pounds in America and has been testing positive with antibiotics and viruses. Of course the FDA only tests two percent of this coming in. The shrimp from the other countries are processed in unhealthy waters by child slave labor. Our restaurants 96% of them are serving the foreign shrimp. They are allowed to market them on their menus as Gulf Shrimp even though they come from Ecuador and Thailand. Our American fisherman are going out of business. We have went from 5000 shrimp boats in the Gulf of Mexico to less than 1000. We need labeling policies, less imports and better support for our fishermen. They don’t get subsidies like farmers. I would love to work to help our fishermen and farmers be more successful. I am not only a Coastal marine Extension Agent with Texas A&M but I am a rice farmer, rancher, and a social media content creator that teaches agriculture online. Let’s make agriculture and fisheries great again!
