Companies are making it more and more difficult to “own” what you buy and part of that is making it hard if not impossible to get the information and tools to fix your own things, putting people at the behest of these companies. Remember when appliances used come come with comprehensive manuals and parts lists and if you wanted to you could fix it yourself with parts and tools and schematics that were easy to get a hold of? That was only a few decades ago.
Also consider how much unnecessary waste there is and the environmental impact of these anti-repair and anti-consumer practices. As well as the price to consumers in general. It encourages throwing things away rather than deal with the cost and hassle of fixing them and using them for many more years.
This is a big deal for the economy and the environment and personal liberties.
Talk to Louis Rossmann for a better understanding of the situation and ideas for how to make things better. He has done a ton of groundwork on this issue and has a solid understanding of what’s going on and ways repair the broken system.
