Please make a new immigration law that is the reverse of “Chain Migration”…in Chain migration when one person becomes a legal citizen then they are allowed to let family members piggy back off them to come to America and become citizens quickly…they skip the line. Well, the reverse should happen for illegal aliens when caught crossing the border or in the country illegally…if caught, not only are you lifetime banned from America and losing any chance of becoming a legal American then no one in your family can EVER become an American citizen. So one illegal can ruin it for their entire family for a generation. This will help stem the flow of illegals and recuce the number of illegals in America.
Let me educate you on how “chain migration “works as you are obviously not aware or you would not have posted such a ridiculous idea.
First let me tell you about me. My husband and I became citizens in 2016. We are sponsoring my son who lives in England. We have a “priority date” of April 22 2016. This is the date we submitted our application in the F3 family visa. We have been waiting so far for over 9 years for a green card to become available. Some people have been waiting for a lot longer. The following are the categories for “chain migration” or to use the correct term,
FAMILY-SPONSORED PREFERENCES
First: (F1) Unmarried Sons and Daughters of U.S. Citizens
Second: Spouses and Children, and Unmarried Sons and Daughters of Permanent residents
A. (F2A) Spouses and Children of Permanent Residents
B. (F2B) Unmarried Sons and Daughters (21 years of age or older)
Third: (F3) Married Sons and Daughters of U.S. citizens
Fourth*: (F4) Brothers and Sisters of Adult U.S. Citizens.
We had to pay thousands and show we could support him financially.
Look up the August visa bulletin and you will see how hard it is to be eligible for a green card.
Let me educate you on how “chain migration” works: ENTIRE VILLAGES HAVE BEEN BROUGHT HERE, you arrogant fool. I don’t care how much you had to pay. As an immigrant you have no right to bring in other members of your family to the USA.
Immigration has to be on an individual basis and if you don’t like that, leave.
END OF STORY. WHY SHOULD THE USA be the dumping ground for CHAIN MIGRATION? Don’t blame you for leaving the rot ISLAM mess called ENGLAND and glad you are here but AMERICANS are sick and tired of every one thinking they have the RIGHT TO COME HERE and bring their families. NO YOU DO NOT.
END chain migration NOW, CONGRESS and get rid of the UNCONSTITUTIONAL anchor baby BS crap. Babies born here to NON-CITIZENS are subject to the government of their parents who are responsible for them and they are NOT AMERICAN CITIZEN.
Please educate me. Show me where these entire villages of chain migration are.
The Family sponsored visa is the LEGAL visa process for parents, sons, daughters, brothers and sisters to have the opportunity to live the American dream. It’s not open to cousins, grandparents or any other distant relative. So I’m confused as to how these entire villages are created. It’s a very long process which takes years sometimes decades to achieve. If you don’t agree with the LEGAL SYSTEM that’s too bad. But don’t make out you know what you’re talking about. What did you do to become a citizen, oh right you were lucky enough to be born here. We did it the LEGAL way you should be focusing your anger on the Biden illegal immigration policy. You are the arrogant fool. Where did your ancestors come from.
I see you brought your British lousy sloppy manners with you. Exactly what America does not need : an arrogant fool, rude new American citizen.
Find the villages yourself, and don’t be so lazy.
You’re not worth my time. Have a nice day
Not only are you confidently wrong you are also completely socially inept to this person who is trying to educate you, bless your heart
There is a YouTube video entitled “chain migration in three minutes” that’s actually done pretty well. I encourage you to look at the issue from a perspective different than your own. There are other perspectives out there and there have been “villages” that have been completely transplanted, albeit, very few. Also, I would like to encourage you to evaluate the condescending tone you used in your initial response. This is not FB where people are rude just for fun. Good Luck.
Apparently, I am worth your time because you had to read and reply.
America owes no immigrant anything, especially chain migration. Hope you didn’t bring Great Britain’s insane LEFT pro-ISLAM politics with you.
Oh, it’s Cathryn’s mommy, trying to prop up her silly post.
You have one thing right, Katelyn - my heart is blessed, but not by you.
I wouldn’t say harassing people online is behavior I’d see from someone who’s heart is blessed by god, but whatever you need to tell yourself ![]()
You’re clearly lost, this isn’t facebook. Be an adult
Take your own advice, Katelyn and stop your constant harassment of others. Your smug superiority is pathetic.
Excellent deterrent.
Honestly your the type of individual we need rid of in this country. Ignorant and refuse to listen to someone who is trying to help you understand a process. I to would love to see these “Village’s” of illegal’s. Yet you’ve brought no proof and nothing to back up your argument. Only thing you’ve brought is yelling and screaming such as a child would.
Read much, Joe? Katherine Susaraba has replied and has suggested a link for exactly that: chain migration: There are other perspectives out there and there have been “villages” that have been completely transplanted.
By the way, you have offered nothing in regard to this subject. Just your prejudiced, not well written opinion. You are the only person who can hear “screaming and yelling” in a comment, but not your own rudeness and smugness. Perhaps you are the one not listening.
One of the better proposed ideas.
Those immigrating to America should not expect special favors. Just because you were let in America doesn’t mean your whole family should be allowed in.
No foreign family member should be allowed into America pigging backing off a family member who was allowed in.
Every foreign applicant must be seen as a new application with foreigner getting in on their own merit.
What America needs is a 100-year moratorium on foreign migration into America until America’s laws are updated and worded to benefit Americans over foreigners
There also should be a 100-year moratorium on all but tourist VISAs until laws are updated to include as long as one American is unemployed but who is seeking employment no foreigner can be employed over the American under any circumstance.
In my opinion, work VISAs should be eliminated period. Foreigners should not be allowed to take jobs from Americans under any circumstance.
Chain migration and family sponsored immigration are not the same thing.
I watched the “chain migration in 3 minutes” you referred to. It over simplifies the process. A few points I want to acknowledge. It mentions who the new citizen is allowed to sponsor. It doesn’t say that it can take between 2 and 23 years to do that.
It also mentions that family members may benefit from better opportunities here and implies there is a strain on resources, especially if the family members arrive in a short period of time, such as healthcare, social services., free housing. When you sponsor a family member you have to show you are able to support that member and you have to sign an affidavit to say you will be responsible for them and they are not allowed to get any social services such as free healthcare, free housing etc. That document will be in place for 10 years. As I previously highlighted it takes up to 23 years.
There is no evidence of any recent chain migration villages. People may be referring to the ILLEGAL way of coming here and bringing family members or the way Biden allowed millions to cross the boarder but this is not to be confused with the LEGAL process of family sponsored migration. It is a long process and does not put a strain on resources. There is also a cap on how many are given a greencard each year. For the F3 visa there is an allocation of 23400 greencards. Out of that there is a cap of 7% from any particular country. For the whole of the family sponsored preference category is 226000 per year.
Maybe I came across as condescending and I apologize for that. I get frustrated when people do not know the facts and use the terms “chain migration” and “family sponsored immigration” interchangeably. I get frustrated when people want to give citizenship to those who have jumped the line and come illegally at the expense of those who are trying to do it legally and have a 10, 15, 20 year wait. When millions have crossed the boarder and are given free everything. There has been too much fraud and as I monitor the situation I can see it will still take a long time but the fraud is being addressed. Loopholes are being closed so I guess we will have to see what happens.
Under the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA), U.S. citizens and LPR’s may petition U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to sponsor a qualifying relative. If the sponsor can establish the proper familial relationship and has enough assets to support that person, they will be eligible to receive LPR status.
Once eligible, the qualifying relative, if they are not subject to the immediate relative exceptions mentioned below, will then be placed on a waitlist with others attempting to immigrate from the same country or region. The family-based visa caps stated in the INA limit the number of people who leave the waitlist every year. Once the relative reaches the front of the line and are taken off the waitlist, they still must apply for a visa and pass a background check.
Importantly, there are limits on the type of relatives that may apply based on whether the sponsor is a U.S. Citizen or an LPR. A U.S. citizen may file a petition for a husband or wife and married or unmarried children. A U.S. citizen that is over 21 years old may also petition for parents and brothers or sisters. LPR’s may file a petition for a husband or wife and unmarried children of any age, but not for their parents, siblings, or married sons or daughters. In addition, neither U.S. citizens nor LPRs may sponsor an aunt, uncle, cousin, niece, nephew, in-law, or grandparent.
Whether or not a relative is subject to a waitlist, and therefore the visa caps in the INA, is determined by the legal status of the sponsor and the familial connection of the relative to the sponsor. If the sponsor is a U.S. citizen and the relative is a spouse, unmarried child under 21, or parent, the relative is not put on a waiting list and may apply for a visa as soon as their relationship to the sponsor is proven to USCIS. These people are known as “immediate relatives.” All other relatives of U.S. citizens and LPRs must wait in line and are subject to numerical visa caps and preferences listed in section 203 of the INA. For LPR’s, there is no exception for immediate relatives and all relatives must wait in line.
The use of the term “chain migration” glosses over the realities of family-sponsored visas and the time it takes to complete the process. If a visa applicant is a relative of an LPR and subject to the statutorily capped family-sponsored preference, the current wait for that relative is anywhere from 2 to 13 years depending on the relative’s preference category. If the relative is from Mexico, the wait is considerably longer and may take anywhere from 2 years to over 22 years. In theory and only to a certain extent, The claim that a single immigrant can result in a family of immigrants becoming LPR’s may eventually become true. But, this process would take significant time and there are limitations on who may come, since neither U.S. citizens nor LPRs may sponsor an aunt, uncle, cousin, niece, nephew, in-law, or grandparent.
Thank you. Most sincerely, thank you. I appreciate your response. I did not realize there was a difference and I commit to trying to understand it more deeply. I continually struggle with the what I consider the political decision made by people who will not discern between legal migrants and illegal migrants. My family were legal migrants 2 generations ago. To succeed, you had to show respect for the country by learning its language and obeying its laws. I will forever be grateful they integrated through hard work and an attitude of humility. I will add your family and all families committed to preserving our Republic to my prayer list today, praying the US Govt finds a way to bring more enthusiastic, capable and grateful immigrants to this country to become citizens.
Works for me.
